Head Unit for Verna

Hi. Need your help in buying an audio system for Verna Xi. The verna xi comes with 4 speakers. So here are my questions

(1) Would it then suffice if I just buy a head unit? Would I need to buy anything else? I want a decent basis music system and nothing majorly hifi
(2) Which head unit should I buy? Price range - 7k to 9k
(3) Should have it brought and fixed at car dealer itself or from the shop selling HU's? (Can you recommend any store in Bangalore)

Look forward to your inputs.

Thanks,

Victor

Yes just get a HU. Once you are ready we at ICE are always willing to help you spend more of your money.

7-9K will get yo a very nice HU. THe Pio /6950/7950 ire favorites here. You might even be able to afford the base Alpine (forget the model number).

Get your dealer to fit it and make sure he uses the original harness and does not just cut the wires. Also get it is writing that he installed the system and the warranty is valid despite the ex-market HU.

The speakers supplied in the Verna are OK types. The rear is OK, I would recommend changing the front. The verna has some nice doors and a nice component set in the front door will make your experience quite enjoyable.

Though the Pioneer 6950 is the hot favourite, I personally find that the 6850 was far superior in sound quality. Also look for Clarion, panasonic and JVC, who are producing some very good HU's.

please stick with your budget. The more posts you read the more confusing you may get:P

Get HU for now. A decent HU can be bought at 7k, 9k one's will have all frills for a future mod

A compo is a nice idea. You need 5-6k for that.

The base Alpine is 9846E. Costs 8990/- with B&W. Go for it, it comes with Bass Engine and sound quality is awesome. However it does not play WMA and has 1 Pre Out only.

Navin / Sam Kapsi / JKdas

Checked out the various HU's at Pit stop and Car Shringar (at Bangalore). Now, they have with B&W and without.

Here are the prices

PitStop:
Pioneer 3950 - Rs.4550 without B/W, Rs.8250 with B/W
Pioneer 4950 - Rs.4900 without B/w, Rs.9250 with B/W
Pioneer 6950 - Rs.7300 without B/w, Rs.12500 with B/w
Pioneer 7950 - Rs.9800 without B/W, Rs.15500 with B/w

Car Shirngar
Pioneer 7950 - Rs.9500 without B/W, Rs.15000 odd with B/W
Pioneer 5990IB - Rs.9400 with B/w (didnt check without B/w)
Pioneer 2990 - Rs.7500 with B/w (didnt check without B/w)
Sony 460U - Rs.8400 with B/w (didnt check without B/w)
Blaupunkt London - Rs.8400 with B/w (didnt check without B/W)

Are these prices ok? Do you guys suggest I go in for with B/W as the price diff is huge or should I stick for with B/W (if with B/w, then can afford only Pioneer 4950, 5990IB, 2990, Sony 460U and Blaupunkt london). Would there be any issues if I go for without B/W.

Also, which of these two shops is better?

Pls let me on the below also if possible....

Also checked for sun film -- Pitstop said Lumar @ 2200, 3m @ 4200 and Vcool @ 7200. Sringar said 3m @4500 and Vcool @ 6100. Which should I go for?

Seat covers - Art Leather Rs.4250 at Pitstop and Rs.5500 @ Sringar

Do I need to put in any additional security systems in the car? (Verna Xi comes with keyless entry).

Thanks,

Victor

P.S: JKDAS: Whats Compo??

Headunit - I would suggest you to get a Pioneer 6950 or 7950 with out B&w.

Sun Film - Lumar for 220 or 3M for 4200.

I dont know about shops so cant comment on seat covers. for compos you can get Jbl compos for approx 4.5k.

Go for the Pio 6950. I got it for 7K in Delhi (without Bill) and stay away from Sonys at all cost. I guess Bangalore is a little expensive than Delhi so 7,300 seems ok unless you wanna bargain for a 100 bucks or so.

Since you are getting art leather seat covers I suggest you go for a good sunfilm. I dont know the exact rates but the rates mentioned by you seem fine. Other Bhpians can suggest better.

Get an auto-cop gear lock just for enhancing the security and you have to worry less. Just give auto-cop guys a call and they will send the guy to your house to fix it.

Compo = COMPOnents, i.e. separate mid-bass + tweeters (2-way, most common) or mid-bass + mid-range + tweeters (3-way; don't go there - way to complex to implement);

For example:
2-way: Blaupunkt THc 172, Hertz ESK 165, Infinity 6020cs, JBL GTO 607 or CS2165c
3-way: Blaupunkt Vc172

Blaupunkt speakers & HU: Mandovi Motors Wilson Garden (yes, at their service center)
Hertz speakers: Sprocket Koramangala (they have a lot of other speakers and HUs too; just don't go into the Sony demo room - guranteed hearing loss / disorientation / nausea; generally helpful guys, but you should do your home-work first - don't count on them to advise you well)
JBL / Infinity: Sound Factor, Lavelle/Walton Road or Sprocket Koramangala
HUs you can get just about anywhere, it is the speaker installation that is more critical

And also should i go in for another sub ? But then I will be left with no boot space !!
