Lovely post and this is a breakthrough! The explanation and working of quite simple. Reminded me of my project work days during my engineering course. Would love to experiment with integrating apps which can be used on the move as well with raspberry pi.

Small Query: Our Tiago has a noticeable lag when connecting to Android Auto. Will having a wireless system eliminate the lag by any chance? I'm looking forward to doing this, thanks for the mod!

Thanks and from your response, its quite evident that you also ordered the Camera Module. I will have to deep study if we could use Smart Life/ Little If Smart platforms to list these cameras there. It will help in setting up a consolidated app which can host all these cameras together for a better vieweing experience!

Ideally it should behave same as your wired AA. In some cases there is more lag in wireless than wired - due to obvious reasons that data now passthough another system(the dongle). If the lag is due to head unit, this dongle will not solve it.

But any data transfer cable should with just as well.

Tired it with VW RCD340G. Using the pi 2w, with a 32GB card and a very old usb cable that I found at home. The initial connection takes around 40 seconds to a minute.

Pro's:
- Wireless connection
- Very cost effective
- Thrill of DIY

Cons's:
- Noticeably laggy/higher latency compared to the wired AA(have ordered a new data cable to see if that resolves it. There are also some fixes recommended on Github, will try those too)
- Every 40 mins or so, there is a lag in the song playing(will update if it is solved with the new cable)
- Doesn't switch off after the car is switched off
- Battery drain on the phone

Verdict:
It was fun to execute the DIY project, and a cool feature to unlock. But because of the battery drain on the phone you will have to connect to a charger in the car so might as well use the wired AA which is much more smoother and responsive.

Battery drain issue would be always there. Hence having wireless charger makes more sense with wireless AA/CarPlay. Also, that is another reason I always have saved maps of my city and download maps of a destination before I leave for a trip. Prefer to download songs in YT music, that way mobile hardly gets heated up, less network related issue and battery drain is in check. And when required I put the mobile in wireless charging (or at times connect to cable that comes from back seat's USB port keeping console area wire free).

In my Punch, the light stays on for some time after which the port stops supplying power and the device turns off. The device was not visible over Bluetooth / WiFi. The same used to happen when my dashcam was plugged into that port.

Can you please let us know if the case cover closes or not if the heat sink is used but camera module is not used ?

Also, how did you attach the heat sink on the processor ? Was a thermal paste provided with the heat sink ?

Yes, the case cover closes fine with only the heat sink present. I guess there could be other kinds of heat sinks that might work even with the camera.

It had a peelable tape, presumably a double-sided one stuck onto it. I removed the protective cover and stuck it on the processor. Without a screw-based setup, I don't think it would hold on top of thermal paste.
