607c can be fitted with a little modifications.

Check Blueravens galery he has 6.5" in the front.
But he has modified the door pads. I cant do that. If i do that, the secret of upgradation will be revealed to my family. :-)

Morever, can i run the comps directly from the HU?

You've already got some good advice here. Step by step upgrade is the way.
GTO 607 won't be easy to fit in front doors unless the grill/doorpads are cut. You don't want to do that. So, get GTO 507.
Get 937 (hurry) 6X9 coaxials for the rear.
Get Pio 5950 HU or Alpine 9873 if you're not worried much of a 2amp setup in the future.
Forget the amp for now and power everything from the HU. Later on, you can add amp and maybe more bling to the setup.

Enjoy ICEing!

5"x7" Speakers : Speakers & Systems : Polk Audio

like here, the SR 5250 is basically a 5.25" compo set, but has a 5x7 adapter.

ummm.... are you sure that door panels take 5x7? or is this for the rear tray? there might be other brands too like boston etc that have 5x7.

alternatively, copy the panel design, get the panel done by a carpenter and go for any 5.25 set.

monty, 5X7 speakers are available across different brands. I don't see a reason why he has to get custom door panels. Not sure about Boston having 5X7s.

However, having heard both Boston and Polk, I think people who have listened to either of them at length and liked it, should buy the same. Out of many brands that I've heard, Polks seemed too bright and Bostons were cribbing to even go beyond omkar/ahuja speakers' level of performance.

Remember. That is just my opinion.

U can check my ikon's setup.
Very similar to what U have in mind.
I have a JBL 507C upfront with no moification to the door pad except for the tweeter mount.
U can go for the JBL 937 for the rear.

A late but sweet update regarding my ICE setup.

Yesterday, I have done the first round of upgradation.

Stuff's went in are,

1. Pioneer 5050UB - Rs 7500
2. JBL GTO 507c - Rs 4500
3. JBL GTO 937 - Rs 3000

Installation - Rs 550
Aux in Cable - Rs 350
MDF Board in rear - Rs 850

Man, This setup really rocks even without an AMP.

@Nitrous - Thanks for your help and suggestions to build the setup.

The problem what i felt with them is, they are working good only if someone is supervising them.

But the sound quality as a package [pioneer + JBL] made me so happy that i forgot and forgave them.

Thanks again for your help nitrous. If you are free we can meet this weekend as well. :-)

Hey guys, great replies to this thread. I have an esteem and it still plays the company fitted 1997 kenwood. I am looking to change the system, and I guess the same configuration should work for me too ?

Of is there something else that needs to be done in my case ? My budget is same around Rs.20K.

I have similar budget for Esteem ? would the same setup work for me or should I make some changes ?

I got the car second hand and it is still running the 1997 Kenwood system.

Mod's Note: Posts merged. Please try and post in one go rather than breaking things up in multiples, unnecessarily.

ICE for new ikon TDCi

Hi GURUs,

I am planning to ICE up my new ford ikon tdci.

I have decided to go for kenwood HU , either KDCMP5039U or KDCMP 6539U
(advice needed here).

JBL oval speakers in the rear as suggested by Auto Shop guy in koramangala, bt still confused over 2 way speaker or component speakers in the front. the price difference will be 2.5K.
(advice needed here).

the various threads indicate that the Auto Shop guy is trusted one for installations.

Please advice anything that is under 15K budget.

I am not a boom boom freak guy, but admire the quality of the sound whether its feeble or loud. I listen to music that starts from raaga to rock!!!!

Thanks in advance

Vinay.
