Shaking it up SQ style!

Here is the update,
Since the car is over damped naturally, and due to the huge volume of the boot, the sub's top whack couldn't be felt as well as it could have, say in an esteem/city/lancer.the solution was to cut a vent in the parcel shelf to allow the higher frequencies of the sub to come into the cabin.I didn't want to mess with the stock look and did the next best thing......IDQ15v2.
First thing that comes out of your mouth when you look at the sub is,damn..its huge!!15" of pure thumping SQ.
I was a little apprehensive because i presumed that a bigger sub would lose its accuracy but damn them people at Image dynamics.I checked the sub's accuracy and speed with one of the songs i like,Megadeth-Kill the king.
after the initial riff, the double bass is really quick. My pioneer 305c used to make a mess of it with overlapping beats. The idq12 was a beauty when it came to replicating the double bass but again the punch wasn't there due to the problem i mentioned-Fiats build. After the 15" IDQ,its a different ball game altogether,it hits hard, fast and loud...I'm lovin it.
Though one of the cons of the 15" IDQ is that now my sedan has become a hatch, because of the damn sub's large size.

Though, now I have to get the rear parcel shelf and the boot damped because the sub is literally testing the build of the car.

The rear stop light inside the cabin next to the rear windshield is vibrating. What can be done to prevent it?

Considering you have a nice carpenter at your disposal, I'd make a 'U' shaped ring of 1/2" MDF, and screw it down tight behind the stoplight, just enclosing the stoplight between the ring and the glass. That should stop it from vibrating.

Or you can use just some rubber beading between the stoplight and the rear-parcel tray, and tighten the existing screws.

One trick I used was lead tape.

You see in the old days many pros (most notably Jimmy Connors who not only used lead tape but also upped the string tension on his T2000 from the recomended 45-50 lbs to 65 lbs - the rest as they say is history) used lead tape on their tennis rackets to change the handling (sweet spot, balance etc) of the racket.

I had some of this lead tape lying around. I stuck strips of the lead tape to the plastic box and that increased the mass of the box. the increased mass moved it's resonance freq. lower and out of the ciritcal midrange.

I was half expecting a mathematical equation to be in there

there is a mathematical equation for this (it is used to tune passive radiators) but Guru Sam has warned me about scaring the newbies.

BTW I just cleaned up my typos so my above post is now easier to read.

@hellspawn:

welcome to the IDQ15 club! Gunbir/JB have told me about the insane top-end whack of this sub...am keen to listen to your setup now and compare with IB setup...audition milega?

Since you like metal & double bass drumming, listen to 'Dyres Eve' (Metallica- not much variation but fast double bass drumming as the backbone) also intro to 'Painkiller' (Judas Priest)

I think the second option might be more successful.Getting mdf btween te glass and the stoplight adds another part which can vibrate.Rubber beading in context wont cause that poblem.

You are welcome to listen to it anytime though i dont know how it will stack up against the power of your genesis
will be at 'driven' this saturday so you are most welcome to drop in!!i really want to check out your cedia!

Yup,metallica has good double bass.even "the one" has a good startup where there are big barrell gunshots going off...actually seems like a double bass effect and the thump is amazing.
painkiller is a really good song....
which all metal bands do you listen to?

So a 15" Sub!!!! I see ,I am dying to hear this sub and compare it with my Hertz 15",congrats again,

You think your car has become a hatch,Then what has my car become TATA nano??

Again how much is the ID 15" for and you are running the ID on the 75.4???Now you need to get a monoblock even faster.

its actually beacuse you have a rectangular box while i have a wedge shaped box which takes up more space.

The idq15 retails for 16.8k.yup,the sub is on the 75.4....actually the 75.4 is pretty good for the sub,the gains are on minimum.Saving up for an even better amp for the components.
