The "Area" would have an influence only on the FM frequency increment, no? If the frequency shows, say 94.3 MHz (for Radio One), then there should not be a problem; but if it shows 94.2 or 94.4 then he is likely to get the tops clipped.

Area '2' in the 'tuner' setting is what I use in all my Alpines....

Try that - all the problems should get sorted...

I don't know if I have selected area2 but I have them tuned to the exact frequency albeit channels with odd F nos.
BTW, I don't see any antenna sticking out of my car anywhere. Now don't tell me that it's embedded

Done dude, here is the story-

Called up blueRaven last week and fixed an appointment for thursday to do the rest of my audio install. The Illusions had finally arrived, thanks to LBM.

I arrive at EVO at 1pm sharp on thusday and after preliminary greetings they go about installing the setup.
I had the the co-axs installed in the front during the first visit which had to be moved back to rear and the newly arrived Illusion 6.1 compos to be fitted in the front and wiring to the AMP done. They used the Illusion reference speaker wire, courtesy satya.
The components and crossovers were finally installed in the front side door in the stock location and the coaxs in the rear again in stock location. This whole job got over only by 9.30pm due to some hiccups.
After they had initially completed the wiring the tweeters were not working and after checking they concluded that the crossovers were faulty. They swapped the crossovers with those from IL4.1 since they are the same and now it was ok. There were some loose connections which took some more time and it was finally tested to work. Satya finally tuned the system until it was sounding good.

Below is the breakup of the full setup once again-
Alpine 9886 - $300 (bought in US)
Illusion Electra EL6.1 Comps- Rs 6000
Illusion Electra EL62 Co-axs - Rs 3900
Cadence Speaker cable & 8awg power cables - Rs 2,200
JBL GT5 A640 - Rs 7000
Installation - rs 1,100

The right tweeters were again not firing the next day and the crossover had to be shaken and put back to make it work. One thing with these Illusions is that their crossovers are pretty bad in construction. Satya had to glue some of them so that they don't come loose. Also my new Illusions had tweeter holders missing but satya provided a makeshift one which does a good job.
So just a caution to anyone going for Illusions check the box contents and the crossovers paticularly for looseness in components.

About the install:
Overall, a pretty good install but could have been better. The thing I noticed is that satya is a really busy person and there are numerous clients being handled at the same time, his boys keep shifting fences after every small job which bothered me. They keep doing things in bits and pieces which affects how they finish the job.

About the music from my install:
All the above minor annoyances not withstanding the instant I switched on the system I was in for a pleasant jolt. The music flowing out of those Illusions literally carried me away. The long hours and minor inconveniences along the way were easily forgotten. The music is just perfect for my ears and brings out each and every tune clean and pure. The stuff coming out of those speakers is heavenly. There is no boom but The bass put out by the coaxs and components seem good enough for now. The tweeters are simply wonderful and those cup holders fixed by satya do a fine job at that angle even though they don't allow tweeter adjustment. The Amp provides enough juice to thump the insides if you ramp up the volumes and still at high volume the fidelity is excellent.

And the final word is- I am very happy with my install
Thanks to Satya and many others in the ICE forum for helping me decide on my setup.

zaks: Congrats on the install. Happy to hear its sounding just purrfect.

Wrt to the crossover, there is a chance that a jumper may have gone loose during shipping. And I notice that you have mounted the crossover on the door. Due to opening/ closing/ slamming the door, again the crossover is prone to jerks and components loosening. The Electra crossover isnt just one condenser and a tiny coil thrown into a big box. There are a lot of components on it, and some of the heavy coils etc can loosen due to momentum gained due to rapid door closing etc.

I see too many installs where people make this mistake. XOs should be installed in the dash (for fornt speakers). There is no logical reason for the XOs to be installed in the door.

No, I didn't want any bling, maybe access was the reason. So, is there a problem if it's in the door if we don't bang it close?

Zaks & Satya, beautiful install. I like the way you retained the stock door pockets.

Ajay, Navin & Satya, the problem with mounting the XO in the dash is that there is a socket that runs a wire into the doors. You cannot run a pair of cables each for the tweeter and the mid from the dash to the door. If someone can help me overcome this, I'll be glad to replace the XO's into the dash.
