I agree wholly. power your rears for now and wait for a good mono sub. or go about and see who has a secondhand one though its not recommended. the blaupunkt will never manage that much power and consistency will be difficult. the entire difference between this and a mono is that mono's are class D amps designed for sustained power. Class A/B amps like the blaupunkt etc are better suited to speaker applications. i hope you've got what i said. using A/B amps is a trade off but at times they can't sustain a long run.

Just been tweaking the settings a bit

As much as its a "simulated" effect , I'm sticking to my current setup till about Jan. Just cranked up the Sub Boost and Loudness features on 9884 HU.Defeat is ON and hence all others settings are flat.

Sounds decent in filling up the lows, but obviously doesn't kick in at low volumes cause the gain is only at 50%.Wee bit satisfied that the GZ is working quite well at its job even at roughly 75W from the 1004 when they can take 500W!.

There is one more factor that i havent mentioned till now. This has been a complete DIY job purely by looking at wiring diagrams, hints on whats best procedure to lay them, where to damp, front stage tuning, amp gain settings, the whole lot just by reading on T-bhp and other audio forums. So lets hope my confidence in gettin it right doesnt take a beating when i show it to a guru for tuning and find out that the Sub does play harder even at 75W! lol. Not to mention i can take off the doors on a NHC within a minute now

Cheers for the advice guys and you can add one me to the Car audio learning curve.I'll be waiting for the GTO7001 or 9401D after i modify the FG enclosure for the mono to sit flush as well.

There are no commonly available monos designed for optimal use at 4ohms, 500W. You will most likely get one that is designed for 2 ohms, 1000W and pay unreasonable amount of money.

If you cant get a good 300 - 600 W power range amp, dont buy the 12XS-AL. It is not inefficient or something, but there's no point feeding a big guy like that just a measly 100-150W.

Or you could get the new XD-AL which allows 4 OR 1 ohm operation and get either a powerful 2-channel OR 1 ohm monoblock for respective load.

A decent 2-ch amp that can deliver about 400W rms is this Panasonic -http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_product_details.jsp?cid=26064

It should be available with Sprocket in Hyd, and if not, you know who the new distributors are. . I think it retails for about 8.5k

NHC Music system- Hyderabad-vented-box-gzrw-12-xs-al.jpg

I just entered parameters for a vented enclosure in Bass Box Pro and chose to study the "input power response".

Gurus , would this mean that a mono amp with range above and around 300W rms would push the sub to kick in and work at its potential and i wouldn't need a 500W mono "technically"?.The dip shown in the output i presume is the "resonant" part of the response being a ported enclosure.

Also, another factor i noticed is the vented volume is showing up as 33ltrs only as per BBPro, but the GZ spec sheet says 42 ltrs.Any clarification in this regard would help.

Cheers
Arun

many subs are more limited by their physical limits than their thermal limits. 300W at 30Hz is much different than 300W at 300Hz. At 30Hz the sub is forced to move much more.

500W is essentially the rms rating. its not always the case that people use the full power of the sub. the effect will not be the same but from an SQ perspective it's a good idea though you'll be maxing the amp out. monobloc's don't generally face trouble at max they are designed for that.

Forget about looking for hamid or his sister or anyone Avi, this was a complete DIY at home.

The shortcuts are aplenty but that will be disclosed when the chapter is complete, lol.

OT : Just back from a visit to Golconda sound and light show, i must say the quality and storyline and whole setup was much much better than the delhi sound n light show!.Mighty pleasing.
