Correct me if I am wrong,
Ported Box gives a Boomy bass where as a sealed box's output is tight punches..

"Professionals who are specialist in making enclosures" = good carpenters.
"Professionals who are specialist in designing enclosures" = anyone who can read-up the how-to on the internet. And do a bit of math (speaker T-S parameters a must).

sealed usually has tight , but reduced output , while the ported can be made to sound boomy or almost as tight as a sealed box, depending on the port and box design. thats the problem. if you're not sure about the way you're making the box, you have no control over how it will end up sounding....

My Swift needs ICE upgrade

My car's existing ICE setup needs an upgrade, and I need your advice in this regard.

Currently, my car has the following:
- Kenwood MP5033U Head Unit
- 4 JBL speakers in the doors

I'm planning do away with the 2 speakers in the front, and install components instead of them. Thinking of putting in either of Bull, Polka or Rainbow components (I have no idea about their prices though). Which one will be VFM?

In addition to that, I would like to add an amplifier to drive these speakers. Which one should I go for - 2 channel or 4 channel? (I won't be installing any sub) Any suggestions?

My total budget for this upgrade is INR 10,000.

I like listening to all sorts of music (ranging from hindi oldies, bollywood, punjabi numbers to .... english rock).

Please feel free to drop in your inputs/suggestions for the choice, installation and setup of ICE.

Thank you all in advance.

On a budget go for Bull Comps in front, add a Kenwood 4 channel amp.

Might go a lil over 10k.

Get JBL 608C at the front. Costs 4k and is not entry level stuff.

Comps and amps and wires and installation within 10k looks a little difficult.

well woof, if you really are strict on your budget then its difficult to get both in 10k. I suggest try to do one thing at a time, that is just install the components first, either Illusion electra EL 6.1 which are for 5.5k-these components are very VFM, haven't heard any other components so cant comment on those. You can get an Amp and a sub in the next upgrade, a VFM amp would be a JBL GT-A604 for 7k with VAT and a decent 12" sub at 6k

If you can add another 3k- then you can get components and amp in 13k.

Reagrds, paddy.

Dude..with time.. preferences do change

Actually, I got installed bull comps + bull amp in my i10, and since that day, I hate driving Swift. IMO, the quality of sound in my i10 is far, far better than in my Swift.

So, I am thinking about taking one of the 2 options now:
1. Get good component speakers (Rainbow etc)
2. Get VFM component speakers + VFM amplifier (Bull/JBL comp + Bull/JBL amp)

I don't want to exceed my budget of 10k. What do you guys suggest?

The second option. Amp plus comps.

How much did you pay for your i10 install and where ?

Listen to Rainbows. If you like them then you can go for Just Rainbow Components and add an amp later on when then budget permits.

Otherwise you already have Bull in i10 so go ahead buy Bull Compos + Blau MKII Amp. Though it will definitely exceed the given budget of 10K.

If you are very strict on budget, then go for JBL 608c Comps and a good 2 channel amp to power them. This should fit in your budget.

On 2nd thought, in future, if again your preference change and you would like to install a sub, then you'll have to change the amp or install a mono.

Get a VFM 4-ch amp. I'm sure you can get the eulogised Kenwood 8401 or a JBL GT5-A604 or that Blaupunkt amp for around 5k.
Use Finolex for power wiring and MX Audio RCAs.
