You are being overly rational, and not using much EQ. If 'reason' and 'logic' were to be the basis of all decisions, no one would have bought an iPhone but bought a Nokia 1100 instead.

CarPC is used by a driver, not passengers, and not in the same paradigm as using a conventional PC even if the hardware and much of the software is the same. The main uses are:
* Complete personal media library on one device
* Navigation system on the same device
* Engine diagnostic / monitoring system also on the same device

My name can be excluded as I no longer have a carputer.

Successfully blew the PSU. Thinking of rebuilding it soon.

Was fiddling around and didnt notice a piece of metal wire had fallen on the PSU circuit.

I turned on and Boom! Some smoke and it was dead. Never tried to get it repaired.
But want to rebuild the PC soon. Saving for it.

So i was wondering if i can build an el cheapo DIY carPc.
My requirements : Must have touchscreen interface.
Rest is all flexible, if it plays the same audio quality as a pio HU i would be satisfied.
Any pointers?

I don't think it would be a "el cheapo" as power supply and LCD itself is expensive,
so sound better you would need a good soundcard and at least a
2 channel amplifier to drive the speakers.

Even building a basic carpc gets set back when you have a budget.
as ghpk mentioned, the PSU and the display itself will cost 16-18k approx

You can try with the car inverter and a normal VGA display without touch screen.
But it will not give the ease of use the PSU and touchscreen provides

if you want your setup to be cheaper then buy off the lilliput EBY-701 and PSU from ebay. that will be cheaper but may be difficlut to replace the fualty parts(international postage).
you can save about Rs.2-4k

The touchscreen alone will set you back by 12k.
