to the OP, why specifically are you looking for DVC subs ?

If I say why I was looking for a DVC sub, you might feel even more jealous. :) . Anyways, I misunderstood that only by connecting a 4+4 ohm DVC sub I can extract the max (360 watts) out of my monoblock. However it looks like I could have very well connected to a 2 ohm SVC sub and the monoblock would have very well put out the 360 watts.

I auditioned the polk momo 2124 DVC sub yesterday and am extremely impressed. It costs around 7k. The alpine swr-1214 DVC, GZ XD-AL, ID12v3 are the other DVC options I had in mind but none are available in Hyderabad (atleast in the places I enquired). Though I could have got it shipped from our team-bhpians, it might be of some trouble incase if something goes wrong with the sub and I might have to probably ship it again for warranty etc.

Anyways I will most probably go for the polk momo 2124 DVC today. For that price point, I find it extremely good. I shall let everyone know about its performance later.

another option would be to use 2 4 ohm subs in parallel. you could have 2 GT5-12's in the back :D

Thats correct. I could have used another 4 ohm SVC sub. However I was not all that impressed with the GT5-12. In other words I was not getting the SQ from the sub that I wanted. I think adding another GT5-12 would have added more SPL than SQ. I may be incorrect.

even though the sub may cost 7K, and the box 1.5, believe me , the sound depends more on the box than the sub ;)

so make sure the installer know how to design/make a proper enclosure , and doesnt sell it to you claiming it to be a copy of a 20k jbl enclosure

I agree that the sound depends more on the box than the sub. I found hell a lot of difference between the previous basstube and the current sealed box that I am using. I auditioned the polk with the sealed box that I am currently using with the GT5-12 and it sounded absolutely fabulous. Once I zero-in on the sub, I will audition different boxes as well ( few more sealed, vented but definitely not basstube).

within ported boxes as well, the tuning of the port makes a big difference. too loose and it will end up sounding like a tube. with a sealed , the chance of that will be less :)

Can anyone tell me the latest price of the Blaupunkt GTW 1200 SUb? or any other cheap decent entry level sub plus approx cost for a decent sealed enclosure?

the price list says 3.75k MRP, but its a free air sub, not sure if its the best candidate for a box install. JBL's and grey market pioneer/kenwoods would also be a good idea :)

well as i said, basically no idea about the sub, so if anyone cam suggest some model numbers to look for and approx prices, either grey or with b&w it'll be great, will mostly be picking it from Hamid from Sprocket

Hey ICE gurus, need help with a basic and repetitive question :D

I have a Sony CDX-F7700 HU which does not have USB support. I am pretty satisfied with the CD playback quality, however the CD burning task has got boring. Now I want to connect a normal MP3 player (not an IPOD) through the stereo headphone jack of the MP3 player to the AUX-in at the rear of the HU. Do I need a simple RCA to stereo cable to be able to connect or any other specific cable ? How will be the sound quality ?

Use a simple RCA-3.5mm stereo cable to hook up the player to the HU's AUX port (leftmost, from the diagram).

Since we're looking at a generic MP3 player connected to a Sony HU using a generic RCA cable, don't have high expectations.

So I guess I'll be needing a 2RCA-to-stereo cable like this one.

Ya it will work fine, and do select Aux-in from the HU. :)
