Replacement of my Stock OEM Hyundai i20 Music System

Hi Gurus,

I have a 2011 Hyundai i20 CRDi and am looking for a replacement for the speakers and head unit for my i20.

I already have a infinity reference 1240SE installed along with JL Audio ovals at the back. Its time to change the speakers in the door and head unit. Also, I want to keep on using my Steering mounted controls.

Pioneer is my firs preference for HU and for speakers I am open to any brand.
Guys upgrade suggestions please.

Re: Upgrading ICE on i20 - lot of doubts !!

Dear Gurus,
It is been 2 years with my i20 and have been looking to upgrade the audio system.

Below are me
1. Budget 10-15K.
2. I am not a boom boom guy, no need of sub
3. Looking for crisp in music.
4. Do not want to change the HU.

Please suggest the best combination of Front & Rear speaker & Amp with model with approximate cost.

Please let know of any questions. I do not have much details of the existing OEM Audio system spec.

I assume your system is the original stuff that came with the car.

1. Get a pair of components for the front. JBL, Infinity, Polk, Boston, Auditor, Morel ... Should be around 6K

2. An amp should be about the same - JBL, Kenwood, Pioneer

3. Now, you said you are not a boom boom guy, which I take it you mean you are not a BOOMMMM-BOOMMMM guy - that is OK. But are you not even a little boom-boom guy? Why I ask is that is that will decide what Rear speakers you should get - 6x9 coaxials (~4.5K) for little boom-boom, or round coaxials (~2.5K) in doors for no boom-boom. No boom-boom is like no salt in food

You will also need to spend at least 1K for wires and cables for the amp. Plus installation charges.

Thanks for the quick response DerAlte
1. Yes, it is the original system and I have not changed anything on it.
2. little boom-boom - Is Fine. My concern is - Will 6x9 coaxials fit in the rear door panel of the existing speaker slot?
3. Will Amp take up the boot space (Sorry, no idea about this?) or can this be fitted under seat?
4. Also i20 comes with a tweeter in the front door. Should I change that too? Pls let know if you want me to post a picture.
5. Say if I go for JBL, can you please suggest the models numbers like JBL GTO608C for front speakers, Amp ?, Rear Speaker and tweater.

Looking for : Additions/Changes done should not be visible or take away any space. Thanks again.

...
* No, the 6x9s will not fit in the door location. You need to mount them on an MDF parcel shelf replacing the OE fiber parcel shelf (which can't take the weight of 6x9s)

* No, the amp won't take up boot space. You can either mount them on the back of the rear seat (on a 1/2" ply sheet), the side of the boot, or even below the driver or passenger seat

* Yes, new components (components come as a set of mid-bass and tweeters) will replace the old components

* Components: JBL GT6-266C / GTO609C, Infinity Reference 6530CS
6x9s: JBL GT6-S699 / GTO949, Infinity Reference 9633I
Amp: JBL GT-X646

Please do audition the components and 6x9s at the dealer

Hi DerAlte,

Can you please tell me an estimated price for the components. I am on a tight budget within 10K and am looking to replace my stock speakers as well.

A pair of decent components and 6x9s should cost you about 10K (plus a little for the MDF parcel shelf and wires). If you want an amp also, it will be ~6K more.

I don't think there are any components available at 5K - you should check in the market. Only Sony is likely to be at that price, and they are definitely not 'nice'. JBL, Infinity, Bull, Auditor etc. are 6K. The 6x9s will cost you ~4K.

I am a bit confused here. You started at 10K, went down to 5K, now up to 7K.

Could you please tell me what all you want at this price?

Re: Upgrading ICE on i20 - lot of doubts !!

Ok so I already have a infinity Ref 1240SE and JL Audio 6X9". The stock speaker quality is not upto the mark and gives a cracking sound if the volume is increased. My dealer says its because the stock speakers are puny and underpowered. He has advised me to upgrade the speakers with components on the front door and coaxs on the rear. Keeping the stock system, I will have to invest a lot on the moderators, wiring, 4 channel amp for the speakers and that crosses my budget. Hence, I am looking for budget components however if nothing is available at 5K range I will have no option but to increase the budget and delay a few things. Hence here is what I a m looking for.

1) 4 Channel Amp
2) Mono block amp ( My old monoblock has aged)
3) 2 sets of 6" speakers one components and one coaxs,
4) Moderator and wiring kit

Please help. I am planning to get atleast one set of 6" installed by tomorrow.

JBL, Infinity Ref / Primus, Bull, Auditor, Boston, Polk etc. should be in the 6K range. Check with dealers / installers, and make sure you audition before buying.

They really don't age.

If you are going to put the sub, round coaxes should be OK in doors. If no sub, then use the 6x9s.

There you go again. TBHP mods ... Wait - you must be meaning something else. What is a "moderator" for you? Did you mean a Line Output / High-Low Converter??? Or a Fuse?
