It was not a 737MAX. It was a 6 year old B737-89P.

Re: Boeing 737 Max crashes and grounding

Not sure if it is the right thread to post this, but another plane of the 737-800 family (not the max) has crashed in China.

May the departed rest in peace.

It was a near vertical dive into the ground. Really scary! Link to CCTV footage.

Speculation that this could be a Germanwings style situation is now rife. If so, it's tragic. If not, it's even scarier to imagine that a flight could go wrong to such a degree.

Re: Boeing 737 crashes in China killing all 132 onboard

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/chin...ndtv_topscroll

While there have been a handful of crashes in which an airliner plunged from cruising altitude, few, if any, fit the extreme profile of the Boeing Co. 737-800 as it pointed steeply toward the ground, according to veteran crash investigators and previous accident reports.

"It's an odd profile," said John Cox, an aviation safety consultant and former 737 pilot. "It's hard to get the airplane to do this."

Re: Boeing 737 crashes in China killing all 132 onboard

Max issue was attributed to MCAS system. Do they have the same system in 737-800 as well? Reason I ask is, the max nosedived because of MCAS which wasnt known to the then pilots. Here the videos published show the plane nosedived absolutely vertically which looks like a free-fall. Scary

May the departed souls Rest in Peace

Re: Boeing 737 crashes in China killing all 132 onboard

I want to share some information about the safety record of various Plane manufacturers from 1966 - 2019.

These include:

Airbus: French, founded in 1970

Boeing: US, founded in 1916

Bombardier: Canadian, founded in 1942

Embraer: Brazilian, founded in 1969

ATR: French-Italian, founded in 1981

Sukhoi: Russian, founded in 1939

Statistic 1 - Fatalities

(Please note that Sukhoi has been producing war planes since 1939, but entered commercial aviation only in 2007 with the SS 100)

Statistic 2 - Service Time

Statistic 3 - Number of seats

Statistic 4 - Fatal Accident Rate

The Safest Plane Manufacturer - Embraer

The safest plane model: Embraer ERJ

No MCAS is not there in any version of Boeing 737 prior to MAX

Unconfirmed footage grab taken from the video twitter points to missing tailfin which may have led to catastrophic structural failure

A higher probability is of the opposite happening, the tailfin could have sheared off due to the extreme loading of the tailfin due to sudden large descent, air speed must have crossed all safety limits.

Can't be sure if it's missing a tail fin or it's the angle that hides it partially.

Re: Boeing 737 crashes in China killing all 132 onboard

In the CCTV footage of the crash, something appears to be separating from the tail part of the aircraft. But I cannot make out what it is or where it disappears after separating from the aircraft.
