Thanks!
General ticket does include ADVA. It also grants you access to exhibition on top.

I better be right, I'm screwed today otherwise.

Re: Aero India Show @ Bangalore | 13th - 17th Feb, 2023

Here are a few shots from the static display area. These were taken from my phone, I'll try to post more images from my camera after filtering through them.

The F/A-18 Hornets from US Navy, they looked beautiful with the wings folded up. Some of the personnel were resting under them to avoid the sun, a very expensive umbrella. Neither of the two took part in the fly-by on Friday and I was told the same for Thursday as well.

Supposedly the most advanced fighter jet, F-35 Lightning. There were two of them, F-35As to be particular. One of them gave a splendid show, the pilot was a lady and she was given a great reception by the crowd on landing.

The mighty SU-30 Flanker of IAF. It may not be the best fighter aircraft, but there is something so striking about it. The design and its imposing stance dwarfs its peers. The pilot put up a spectacular show, banking left immediately on take off and we could feel the engine roar. That was quite an experience.

Both the F-35s with F-16 Falcons next to them. One of the F-16s participated in the show on Friday afternoon.

C-130 Hercules of the Indian Air Force. A bonus pic for the turbo prop fanatics.

An Embraer C-390 of the Brazilian Air Force. They kept one of the engine running whole day, but didn't participate in the show. Probably an agreement to provide the background sound effects.

Dassault Mirage 2000 of the Indian Air Force. Also in the background are the Dassault Rafale and HAL's Tejas.

The legendary Jaguar of IAF. I was surprised to see it amidst other 'newer' aircrafts.

AH-64 Apache, again of the Indian Air Force. I used to watch documentaries of it 15 years ago as a teen. Imagine the awe looking at one at such close range.

Another indigenous product, the HAL Dhruv. It is proving itself to be quite a versatile platform. To be honest, I feel this has more potential to be exported to other militaries over the Tejas.

NETRA AEW&CS built by DRDO on top of the Embraer ERJ-145 airframe. Love the design.

There was also a SAAB Gripen, where one could sit inside the cockpit and have a picture taken.

I wanted to see the B-1 Lancers but that did not happen on Friday. One of them flew-by on Thursday afternoon apparently. I was hoping that the SU-30 would do the Cobra manoeuvre, but that was not part of the show either. But we did get to see it dropping flares, extreme slow fly-by and its thrust vectoring.

Another point to note was that there were no other Russian aircraft in the show. Neither the MiGs or MI helis or TUs that are already serving our armed forces. There were rumors that SU-57 might make an appearance but that remained a rumor.

Went on Thu. Posting only the missing ones as @professortarzan has posted better photos.

F-35 was the 2nd one to fly in the morning. What a performance! It was like watching a Ferrari drive around after Suzuki's and Hyundai's

B1 - It did not take off from the Yelahanka AFB. It just came flying from the east, flew over the runway. It then took a U Turn and headed back east without landing. My guess was it must have taken off from KIAL.

Sorry for the photo quality. Since I was going for the first time, I thought that bags were not allowed inside and didn't take my camera. Had to do with an iPhone 13

Rafale
Attachment 2420811
This is the Tejas.
Few indicators are slimmer profile (Rafael is wider), single engine (Rafael is twin engined) and lack of canards.

Yes that is true. There was a post in the previous page which shows the B1-B parked at KIAL.

I hope there are special technology exhibits for kids/young adults where they explain the stuff that these magnificent machines are made of. In future, there should also be come collaboration with educational institutes to attract more of the student community.

You can always visit the ‘HAL Heritage Centre and Aerospace Museum’ in Bangalore , iirc they have a simulator and there are some good exhibits as well.

In a first, this was the first time the IAF displayed an Apache armed with Stingers on its stubby wing tips.

They indeed took from KIAL. We landed at KIAl on Thursday morning and saw these beasts there right next to our plane

I am super jealous of you guys, I really wanted to see The Bone in person. It was the main reason we stayed back for afternoon session.

Anyway, we got to see the F-16 fly and managed to get some good shots. I can live with that.

You are lucky to watch all those beasts in flesh and blood (ah maybe in steel and carbon fibre!). The pics are pretty cool too, not that bad. Could you share more pics of the NETRA installed please? If you have any. Thank you.

Great to see such close photos and nice of you to share. I was lucky to see at close range, way back in Dec 1996 whilst I was doing my instructor course with Air Force. Memories are still fresh in my mind. Big change from there.(sorry for old photos quality)

Wow thanks for sharing. That looks like one of the initial experimental Su-30MKs (Serial 603) which were eventually bought by India in the late 1990s.

I wonder why don't the Russians send their Su-57 or at least some of the latest Su-35s.

Re: Aero India Show @ Bangalore | 13th - 17th Feb, 2023

Thanks for all the pics. Feeling thrilled. The best machines all at one place.
I remember my first marketing job, almost 20 years ago. I was invited at BRD - Base Repair Depot (Nashik, Maharashtra) of Airforce by a wing commander. I was then taken to a MiG aircraft for which they needed a special tool. They put a ladder & took me on top of that plane to show the function of a particular part. I listened to super loud jet engines sounds too.
Actually before visiting I knew that I won't be able to supply the tool which they needed, but out of a curiosity I visited the place.
I can never forget that moment of seeing, touching, feeling a live fighter plane.

Re: Aero India Show @ Bangalore | 13th - 17th Feb, 2023

I went on Thursday 16th, and man, what a treat

To be honest, i had gone there to fanboy over the Tejas and Su-30 MKIs but i came back awestruck by the F-35.
I feel like i cheated

The moment the F-35 came roaring over the runway with a short takeoff and then a vertical climb, man...
There's no way to describe what that machine looked and felt like. The closest i can come to describing it - it's like if you had one of the machines from the Transformer series come to life in front of you.
You could *feel* the menace oozing from it.

The roar was all sorts of ungodly. I just did not expect that from the singe engine. Even the Sukhoi with 2 engines couldn't top the sheer blast from the F-35.

And what a pilot!
That lady flew the crap out of that plane. That was the best routine of the entire airshow for me. Such a tight, commanding performance.
The IAF routine with the Rafale and Su-30 did quite similar patterns but their turns were not quite as tight as the F-35s.
I understand the F-35s and F-16s were part of USAF's display team and they do this sort of thing all over the world. Believe me, it shows!

The F-35s only flew in the morning. Afternoon show had the F-16s fly. They were ok. Underwhelming after the F-35.
For me the display was F-35 >>>> Rafale > Su-30MKI > Tejas/F-16.

For the record, I got there at about 8 am and left at about 1730. In this whole time, i could watch both air shows, went around the static displays on the tarmac and was able to do a quick run through the exhibition.

Next time i do it, I will probably only go for the ADVA pass as i wasted the 1500 Rs extra for the exhibition. There was no difference in the experience since they were not really checking anything at all.

This sign, right after entering the airshow area, is symbolic of how well planned it was.

I think i spent an hour or so just standing in the afternoon sun looking at the US visitors, lol.
