There are many KSRTC Fast passenger and superfast services if you are not very particular about volvo/Sania

There used to be an operator Supaa Travels wihch ran AC buses (not Volvo or Scania though) from Coimbatore to Ernakulam. They used to have a bus starting from Coimbator around 1 PM. They may be still around. They are one of the oldest operators on the Coimbatore Ernakulam route I think from 1990 or even earlier.

Supaa still operates a number of buses, both in the day and night, from CBE - Kochi and back. These are Ashok Leyland AC buses; my wife took one a few months back and was a comfy ride. You can find them listed on Redbus or their website

Re: Intercity Bus travel reviews

So right now I'm in the middle of my CBE TSR travel... Got a KeSRTC ordinary to PKD (had to take the last seat since that was the only place available to keep my suitcase) and managed to get a KURTC JNNURM converted Volvo from there on. I guess these ones are really speed limited, may be 60 or so ; everyone on the road seem to overtake us.

Even Tata Aces

But nothing much to complain otherwise, very courteous staff, good music and smooth drive.

The below 2 pics pretty much sums up the two opposite kind of buses I've traveled in the last couple of days.

May sound like nitpicking, but here goes... AFAIK, KSRTC has only Fast Passenger and above (FP, SF, S.Exp, S.Deluxe, Garuda Volvo, Garuda Scania) between CBE and PLKD. So, what you travelled in, is most probably a FP. Yes, it's an 'ordinary' bus, without any bells and whistles (It does have a bell, I suppose, for the conductor to signal the driver).

KURTC Volvos are not converted to anything, and they're running as KURTC itself. You will not find the depot marking on them, as with the KSRTC buses. You would find one running PLKD-TVM, but the end to end fare works out much higher than a Garuda Volvo. However, they do attract passengers who travel short distances.

Re: Intercity Bus travel reviews

Folks - need help. I need to be in Muvattupuzha to attend a wedding and I am taking the early morning Air Asia flight from Bangalore to Cochin, which lands at Cochin around 730 AM. what is the best way to go from Cochin airport to Muvattupuzha? Does KeSRTC ply any volvo buses on this route, or is airport taxi the only way? Thanks in advance

There are no direct buses. But you can take an uber/ola to Angamaly/Aluva and take a bus from there. There are very few buses that run outside the airport towards Kalady as well. If you are lucky, you might be able to catch a bus to Aluva/Angamaly from the airport as well.

It is 30 km - hire a cab from the airport itself. Ola / uber direct to Muvattapuzha might actually make sense right?

Thanks guys - this is helpful. Do Ola / Uber honor inter city rides from Kochi Airport to Muvattupuzha?

30 km hardly qualifies as an outstation ride. In any case ola offers an option of outstation booking, and it also allows you to set your destination so if it is not an allowed option you won't be able to book ola mini, prime etc.

Try it and see. If the usual ola booking doesn't work try ola outstation.

Worst comes to worst you can get a cab from COK airport at around 1500..2000 rupees (due to empty return for the cab - or you can keep him for the day and do that as a round trip).

AFAIK, Muvattupuzha is out of service area for Ola/Uber - that was the case a couple of months ago. Not sure if it has changed now.

Isn't 1500-2000 a big figure to travel 30kms? CATS specialises in ripping off passengers arriving at COK airport as well. I always try my best not to patronise these robbers.

The Uber/Ola service has not started in Muvattupuzha area although news are ripe Uber may cover whole district soon.

Your best option is to hire a taxi to Muvattupuzha which is around 33kms from airport. However, there are frequent KSRTC (Kerala) buses through the MC road from Kalady to Muvattupuzha. If you have light luggages and doesn't mind travelling in KSRTC buses, reach Kaladi junction and there are frequent fast passenger/SF buses towards Muvattupuzha/Thodupuzha/Kottayam side. It is a 35 minutes journey from Kalady on RTC bus. AC low floor buses from Kalady to Muvattupuzha are rare as there are very few Thrissur-Muvattupuzha AC LF services.
