Petrol was cheaper and more easily available in many African countries during those days. I lived in Nigeria for a few years at that time. It was the preferred fuel for vehicles upto minibuses class. Toyota Coster and Hi Ace with petrol engines were very popular.

At a used car dealer, a few years back. This was in Dharwad. Found the pic on my laptop recently, and shared it. It's so beautiful ! I have a soft spot for the TataMobile, but not finding a good one.
