Was just wondering, indigenous ships, do they not come into category of "Indigenously Developed Military Vehicles?"

India Signs Up For JLTV

In a surprise announcement, Joint Light Tactical Vehicle officials said India has signed a letter of intent to participate in the next phase of the program.

Kevin Fahey, program executive officer for ground combat systems, told reporters about the Indian agreement Tuesday at the annual conference of the Association of the US Army.

No need to google for that, Indian T-90 is called Bhishma whereas this tank have written Arjuna on it in bold letters.

Sadly, our own corrupt babudom and the army deal brokers have refused to purchase Arjuna in adequate quantities, even though the DRDO( makers of the tank) is challenging Army to hold trials between Arjun and the Russian tank which is favorite of Army but Army has been delaying those trials.

Reason for all this: Arjuna is too wide.

Tell me who will buy Indian product if our own defense forces will refuse to buy it. It is sad fact, our defense forces and the babudom are more than happy to contribute to the trade defect.

The only way out of this mess is the privative the production and marketing of Indigenously developed defense products, and leave R&D to the various labs. Because Indian private sector is as good as anyone else in bribing the babudom and the brokers.

Read the statement to which I gave that reply.

I only asked him to check it out himself so that this thread does not get derailed.

Peace..

Here's another indigenously developed military vehicle, named Tuffy.
Indigenously developed Military Vehicles.-tuffy3a.jpg

Here's a short description:

Quote:
With changing trends in guerilla warfare tactics used by insurgent groups it is necessary for the troops to contain a threat with multi-role armoured vehicles. For troops deployed in counter-insurgency and security operations in the Northern and North-Eastern commands, bullet and splinter-proof vehicles have become the need of the day. Keeping this in view, for the first time Corps of EME of the Indian Army has developed two bullet-proof vehicles that are also equipped with latest communication system, night vision devices and wide range of fire power.

Both Hunky and Tuffy are ergonomically designed air-conditioned vehicles to accommodate six and four-member crew respectively. While Hunky, the medium bullet-proof vehicle, has a protection against small arms, splinters and IEDs, Tuffy, the lighter version, has a Swedish bullet-proof shield against fire from a distance of 10 metres. Both of the vehicles have splinter-proof glasses in the windows and windscreens and have sliding firing ports for firing of personal weapons. A variety of weapons ranging from LMGs, MMGs and missiles can be fitted on a mount which has a 360 degree traverse on both the vehicles. Hunky, developed by 505 Army Base Workshop, Delhi Cantonment, can store provisions in sliding racks that operate with feather touch. The concept can surely give an added edge to the troops in tough terrain as versatility and comfort has been a key area of emphasis in developing these vehicles.
Hunky / Tuffy

Too wide a tank may seem a trivial reason but it is a major issue , India , since its inception has been using Russian weaponry (majority) , and has all the transport / storage / service facilities catering to their machinery and standards .

Incorporating a new tank means - new storage areas have to be made , bigger transport vehicles are needed , different maintenance facilities are needed.. etc etc .. all this , corruption apart are reasons causing the demise of the ARJUN project. It was a good tank (as per some critics online) , but the truth being that its induction could have fueled better and more sophisticated generations of indigenous tanks in future .

Was it really developed by Pakistan? or is it just a renamed Chinese Type 90 tank?

The first picture in the thread shows numerous Indian Navy ships. Though they may be built in India they can hardly be said to be indigenous.

The first two ships from the right are Rajput class destroyers which are modified versions of the Kashin Class of Destroyers from the erstwhile Soviet Union.
