I have already said this, and will repeat again; Banning the Omni from taxi trade while it is legally allowed to be sold in the country will not hold water. The company as well as operators are sure to go to court over this ban, and the courts will shoot it down.
I understand your point of view, but as long as omni (especially the 8 seater variant) is sold - the pool car owners would continue to bend the laws as far as possible and give a damn to kids' life.
IMO the best way to commute to school is via registered school bus.
Also, I went through some articles in newspapers, and the banning of omni as a taxi is not going to have ANY effect on the cab industry in west Bengal, but is introduced to stop ferrying school kids like cattle (the 65% funda).

school pool car -> must be registered as commercial cab
registered as commercial cab-> cannot be omni
so, school pool car-> cannot be omni

School kids are packed like sardines even in Matador/Mahindra vans. But at least they are not running on gas cylinders. So you are saying the taxis will not be banned?

Its not like that. No omni can be registered as a yellow plate vehicle (commercial), and the new mandate states that school pool cars have to be registered as yellow plate vehicles. So no omni school pool cars can be there.

In short, what the hon. minister seems to be saying is that only vehicles manufactured in WB - and that too at Uttarpara - are "safe" and therefore fit to be certified as cabs!

Nope - we have plenty of sumo, indica, indigo marina and indigo CS as cabs (and TATA don't even have a foothold in WB - courtesy our very own 'didi').
And car rentals like avis, europcar travel house etc rent out city, cedia, fiesta etc. So its not the 'uttarpara' factor!
