Source.
Looks like the bus Tata sells in Spain is Series Hybrid and uses the powerline from Siemes, http://www.tatahispano.com/pdf/Hybrid_TML.pdf where as the one sells in India is Parallel Hybrid with powerline from EATON Corporation. The Cummings CNG engine is the same on both models. Eaton is the current market leader in hybrid systems though.

Thanks Akshaye,

I thought that this was the same Siemens hybrid technology being used here. Apparently TML have shifted over to Eaton.

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

After a year of travelling in the BMTC Volvo, I travelled in a Tata Marcopolo (the A/c bus) today and man, it is terrible!

The seats are not at all comfortable; the back support is curved at the top; meaning anyone who's not short will have his shoulders unsupported. There are pillars on the aisle at every seat; so there is less room there.

For a blind-folded person, when the bus accelerates it would seem he is in an aircraft; not for the acceleration but for the noise! I found the bus struggling to accelerate even with just 20-odd people in it.

Although cheaper, the bus is noisier, more polluting and less comfortable version of a Volvo.

+ BMTC does not give proper attention/care TM buses like Volvo.

First Pics of KeSRTC Titan

Spotted today the KeSRTC Titan heading from Bangalore - It has temp registered at AP.
Body Built by Antony Garage.
As usual I was driving in the opposite side, then I need to take a U turn and then drive back to chase it.
Sorry that I could not take a proper Front view - only from my RVM's.

Could have done with a better paint scheme in my mind. Body build quality looks OK. The interiors are whats more important, i.e. seats, recline angle, arrangement etc.

BTW, is that stool where the conductor is supposed to sit??

Typical Mumbai body! The rear lamps look like the ones that were regular on BEST buses. Once in Kerala, I am sure KeSRTC would have a tough time getting replacements for broken lamps. I am sure the lamps would be replaced with the OEM ones very soon.

The paint scheme could've been better - this is the standard KeSRTC ordinary bus colour, but the cream band is thicker.

The Antony bodies are usually not that bad - cannot be sure. Its been more than 4 years since I saw a "new" Antony built bus. The up-down windows are going to be an innovation for passengers here - but if its successful, I guess KeSRTC could go for such windows in their normal buses too (like the ones in TNSTC). These windows have the advantage of letting in more air (like our shutters), while also letting passengers see what's outside, even when the windows have to be closed.

Yes.. that stool is for the conductor. The other seats seem to be the normal FRP seats.

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

Ashley2, that's one nice scoop :-)

I liked the old color scheme. Like urzdeepu said, the front is somewhat modern, but the rear and the sides, typical BEST old school double decker style. And good to see round headlamps instead of the NewGen type HL+Indicator assembly. Not that the NewGen type is bad, but they don't gel with some designs. Hope the top floor has a big glass windshield at the front. It'll be an inviting feature for tourists.

Waiting for the engine spec and the interior pics. From whatever little is visible, I feel it's somewhat bling-bling. And is that stool a revolving one? ;-)

Is that an SLF chassis, btw?

Thanks urzdeepu and SS!
Though not sure about the engine powering it could be a 180HP BS III.
There is no SLF avatar in double decker. Its a normal conventional chassis only.

Ashley!
You spotted a AL Double Decker manufactured in Ennore/Hosur (TN), sent to Anthony Garage in Thane/Navi Mumbai (MH) coming from Bangalore (KA) in Hosur (TN) going towards TVM (KL). But why does the bus have a temp registration in AP(AP-16 which is for Vijayawada)?

Hey your question is too long, but could answer short.
No Idea!

(Really I am also curious to know why it was temp reg at AP)

Re: City Buses of various STUs all over India

Tata's bus chassis manufacturing facility is in Lucknow. But not much body building facility exists there.

The only buses fully manufactured at Lucknow as far as I know are only Tata's Starbus MarcoPolo fleet of LCV and ICV buses based on the 709, 909 or 1109 chassis. But I dont think these cost 27lakh each. All other longer buses by Tata are now done by ACGL in Goa or TMML in Dharwad. At 27lakh these should be the Tata Marcopolo RE SLF models.
