Initially Sona Travels was the ticketing agent for Raj, later the buses starting appearing with markings "Raj Sona"... now its all about Sona Travels!!

They are based at Aluva.

The bus in the picture was the first volvo bus in kerala.Yes it the one owned by PUZHEKADAIL. When PUZHEKADAVIL broke they sold it off to KRMS who operated in Malabar route. A year and half ago it was brought by SONA travels . The orginal Bus no was KA-O1-C- 6030 .

HYDERABAD: State-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will soon introduce six `Luxura', high-end inter-state buses. APSRTC officials said the buses have been designed by Chennai-based Ashok Leyland.

APSRTC executive director U Sudhakar Rao said the bus, which comes with a price tag of Rs 56 lakh, would have air condition, a television set and push-back seats. "We have been buying India-made buses in order to discourage foreign companies. The cost quoted by the Indian companies is much less and at the same time they provide better passenger amenities," said Sudhakar Rao.

According to officials, the 44-seater Luxura bus is a rear engine vehicle. Tentatively, the APSRTC plans to ply these buses on Hyderabad-Bangalore, Hyderabad-Shirdi, Hyderabad-Ongole, Nellore-Bangalore and Ongole-Bangalore routes. Officials said the fare would depend on the distance, with a base fare of Rs one per kilometre.

APSRTC has also started direct bus service to Tirumala. Till recently, passengers had to board another bus from Tirupati to reach Tirumala. These buses, Sapthagiri Super Luxury, have been built at Bus Body Building (BBU), Miyapur.

Each bus has been built aerodynamically at a cost of Rs 12 lakh to navigate sharp turns on the Tirumala ghat road. As the election code has come into force, APSRTC did a quiet launch of six buses last week. Another five more would be added soon.

As of now these buses have been introduced from Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore.

Would've been really great if you had bothered to put in the source of this news. More importantly, the date of the article. A statement in the report says "as the election code of conduct has come into force" (or something in similar lines) - it is evident that the article is not recent. Please do not put up such articles out of context, especially old ones.

it is interesting to know what happened to the buses mentioned in this article. Where is Luxura, how the specialy built Sapthagiri Super Luxury is doing, did it take off at all?
After this announcement, APSRTC purchased, Mercedes Benz and Tata Hispano buses, how these are doing? How come MB is not considered as foreign?
APSRTC (at least on paper) discourages foreign companies, where as the communist governments in Kerala and West Bengal supports it, The ShivSena in Mumbai is okay with Chinese buses on their roads...

Always wanted to post Mangalore buses. Somehow got these pictures
TATA has almost 80% marketshare

this surely looks the same chasis as bEST"s mutp buses.. but it looks very bad due to the body style which looks like from 70s and the chasis frm 2010

Its indeed not - these buses are built on Ashok Leyland 12M chassis (Still surprised to see the Viking badging, though). The bus is powered by a 177hp Hino Engine - has 6+1 gears.

why is it that kesrtc does not use the 12M Leyland chassis on their long distance super express and super fast buses instead of building fast passengers on it?

Kesrtc could have made the front end of the 12M bus similar to the tata 12m bus(rac series super express) built at kozhikode kesrtc workshop. The current design, imho is awful.

Ashley2 : Have seen many B7R's of this kind with heavy smoke from them during acceleration..
Used buses do re-enter operation through smaller operators, and this seems to be one such.

Logically, they are put into shorter routes, where even if a break down happens, it does not affect the passengers so much as in a break-down in a long distance, night service.

KeSRTC earns its bread and butter from Ordinary and FP services. Their own estimates show that SFP and Sup. Exp. do not bring in that kind of revenue (on a per bus basis).

Of the 5469 buses with KeSRTC (as of February 27, 2010), 5047 buses come under the Ordinary/FP Category (FP Buses account for 924 buses only). They have 296 SFP, 54 Sup. Exp. and 39 S.Dlx buses.

By bringing in 12M buses in FP category, they are actually trying to maximise the revenue per bus - a 12M bus means 9 extra seated passengers, and lots more of standing passengers.

BUT, about 50 new 12M Super Expresses are expected this year.

Good point. But a small nitpick - the Tata 12M buses were built by CW, Pappanamcode, not RW Kozhikode.

Binai,
That's a lot of information you have provided. Thanks for correcting me as well.

Keep up the good work that you are doing, on your aanavandi blog and the picassa web albums.I'm a regular follower of your blogs.

One of the local daily news websites has finally managed to catch a glimpse of the KSRTC M'lore-Manipal Volvo B7RLE's clap:

Mangalorean.Com- Serving Mangaloreans Around The World!

Though they seem to be refurbished ones from the Mysore division, they look well-dressed" for the drive, hehe.

Hope the commuters take a liking to this service, and more of these follow in future.
