Do we have any other options? Look forward to inputs.

You can take the train. At 430 pm you have the Mumbai Visakhapatnam express(18520)that will drop you at Begumpet by 9 pm.

Thanks PVS. I am not able to get any reservation. Does this train have decent seats for general class tickets?

You might want to buy wait listed 2nd ac or 3rd ac tickets, get onto the train and try getting seats someplace. 2nd class unreserved coaches get padded seats nowadays, but the coaches are crowded and you would get tired in the heat and humidity by the time you reach Begumpet.

I saw a Mercedes sleeper bus at Madiwala, Bangalore, last wednesday evening at 8:30 PM. This one had excellent interiors including individual LCD screens in each cabin. Does anyone know what route these buses service?

KPN operates one to Trivandrum. Goes via Tirunelveli. Seen one in Chennai as well and is listed for the same route.

Folks, need some help in deciding a bus for travel to Trivandrum.

Date: 26th Nov
From: Bangalore (near silk board)
To: Trivandrum - Specifically on NH47 Bypass, near Infosys office.
Passengers: Elderly couple.
Type of bus required: AC Sleeper.

Now upon shortlisting ac sleeper buses, I see 4 services as shown in the screenshot below.

However, none of them go near Infosys office on NH47 bypass.

My brother told me that all of them go via that road. However we are unsure.
Can someone guide me if the buses go via that route.

The Infosys office is in the area called Kazhakootam.

In reality, its only two services. KPN starts from Thampanoor and heads straight towards Nagercoil, while Kallada starts from Mangalapuram. Kallada will pick from Kazhakkoottam - I am not sure if they would stop near Infosys office, but they do have pick up at Kazhakkottam (near the place where the bypass takes off from).

Actually, the travelling is To Trivandrum. So wanted to know if KPN and Kallada will pass through Infosys / SFS Apartments on the NH 47 bypass ?

I think all buses entering Trivandrum will pass through this spot. Am I correct ?

Only Kallada will pass. Again, I am not sure if it will pass through Infosys, but it will surely pass Kazhakoottam. These buses come via Nagercoil, and they need not pass Kazhakkoottam to enter the city.

As binaiks mentioned, buses run mainly on two routes from Bangalore to Trivandrum. Many buses including the two you have listed take the Salem Tirunelveli Nagercoil Trivandrum route which means they enter Trivandrum from the south. The Kallada service continues beyond Trivandrum and terminates some kilometres after Kazhakkutam whch is to the north of the city. But again do not count on the Kallada service 100% to get down at Kazhakkutam since it can be that most passengers want to get down at or before Trivandrum and the operator in such a situation may terminate the service at Trivandrum city itself.

The other route from Bangalore is via Salem, Coimbatore. Palghat, Ernakulam, Alleppy which passes through Kazhakuttam which is at the start of the NH 47 Byepass on the northern end of Trivandrum. Both the Kerala and Karnataka SRTC Volvos take this route but neither of them are sleeper coaches. You can get down at Kazhakkutam and a few years back when I took the Karnataka SRTC service, it went via the byepass but this is no means certain always. SFS Apartments is as you mentioned on the NH 47 Byepass.

Is train not an alternative?? There is a Bangalore Kochu Veli daily train which reaches Kochu Veli around 9 AM. Kochu Veli is a suburban terminus for Trivandrum and is easily accessible by private vehicle and more convenient than the main Trivandrum railway stations for the NH Byepass and SFS Apartments.

I disagree on this. The bus has its parking at Mangalapuram, and will pass Kazhakoottam even if all passengers get down at Thampanoor itself.

The bus may pass Kazhakootam but the crew may take their own sweet time to proceed even if they decide to do, especially if there are hardly any passengers to alight after Thampanoor (Trivandrum city centre). The operator in question has also parking for their other buses at Trivandrum city itself. Except on weekends , from my personal experience, on most of these Trivandrum bound buses via Salem , Nagercoil, from both Bangalore and Chennai there are not many passengers all the way till Trivandrum city. Hence taking the Kazhakkootam drop for certain under such a circumstance especially with the private operators is something I personally will not risk keeping in mind it is an elderly couple who will be travelling. I know of quite a few incidents where operators who were advertising boarding points at Kazhakkoottam for their Bangalore/Chennai buses via Nagercoil have made passengers board the bus at Trivandrum itself.

It is different if you are taking the route via Palghat, Ernakulam as the bus has no option but to pass Kazhakootam since it is enroute.

The scenario on the "Kazhakootam" drop off point for private operators operating via Tirunelveli, Nagercoil route is something similar to the Kalasipalyam drop off point for services to Bangalore . There have been far too many times when one has been told to get off at Madiwala by private operators, irrespective of what they advertise on their website.

I am no one to correct your beliefs. But all Kallada buses that arrive TVM via Nagercoil go to Mangalapuram for parking - because they have return pick-ups from a lot of places. And, majority of buses that arrive TVM via Nagercoil have passengers till Kazhakoottam - so its relatively safe to take them. Madiwala and Kalasipalya is a different game all together.

Posting this here, as it would be completely OT in the Wabco AMT thread.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has started special services between Chennai and Palakkad, Thrissur, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, to help those affected by the floods in Chennai to travel to safety. The highlight is, the KSRTC will not charge anything for trips out of Chennai, while the trips to Chennai will be charged normal fares for the particular class of service.
