Re: D-I-Y: Smoke Tinted Headlamps & Tail Lamps

Baleno power... it feels incomplete :(. Would have been better if you left the reverse lamps and turn indicator lamps as it was and smoked the rest.

Nothing at all. I only have the smoke tints on the rear, and they don't block the lights much so they won't bother. I don't think there is any rule against smoking/tinting headlamps. In any case, there are old model vehicles and autos with non-existent taillamps. At least mine are running at 80% illumination if not 100%. The difference is hardly noticeable, in fact it adds a mysterious dark red glow

P.S - I doubt they would be brave enough to stop an Abarth Evo EsseEsse 'imported gaadi'.

The seller was on eBay, and I spent around 500 bucks for the full roll covering both tail lamps. You'll find the link to the product in my opening post of this thread, in the FAQ section.

Re: D-I-Y: Smoke Tinted Headlamps & Tail Lamps

Awesome work Karthik! Was impressed with your D-I-Y process and got this item immediately from the same eBay seller. I am skeptical if I can do this on my own. Could you please let me know if 3M would do this stickering work?

Thanks Prodigy07 . 3M car care centres will not do it for you, unless you buy a 3M product which the store is authorized to sell/apply on cars. As far as I know, the franchise stores undergo random checks by 3M company folks to ensure no malpractice is happening, so they won't touch any non-3M products.

You can try applying on your own if your car's tail lamp shape isn't too difficult to work with. If you're still not confident, you could take the help of a local accessory shop guy. Anyone who applies sunfilms or stickers will be able to help with this.

Re: D-I-Y: Smoke Tinted Headlamps & Tail Lamps

Karthik, I took a chance and wrapped the Headlamps with Taillight tints. This was not a D-I-Y process though. The visibility is pathetic I shall remove the tints during the weekend.

Was looking into doing this on my i10 and thanks to friendly BHPian Eminenttismo have these two renders. Please have a look and tell me which one you prefer.

Only indicators:
IMO have your entire tail lamps smoked excluding your indicators and reverse lights. In this way you could retain the safety and usability of your tail lamps while still making it look cool.

Full tailamps:
Full taillamps look better, but unlike this sample, the indicators won't be greyed if fully vinyl'ed. They will be the same color as the entire lamp strip (i.e black). Only when illuminated, the color difference will be seen.

I'm not sure how S2's suggestion would look, but you could make circular cut-outs in the vinyl after pasting it on the entire lamp, something like the Optra SRV picture I showed on page 1 of this thread. That would also look cool on your i10, plus it will retain visibility.

Definitely but nipcarlover stated he has 50% VLT film, so I thought it would look like this.

For reference,

Karthik, that might be the case on your Punto because the Punto's tail lamps has the plastic itself in orange whereas the i10 has clear plastic, and the bulbs themselves are coloured.

BTW, I just noticed that the i10's tail lamps have a small hole in them, no idea why. Will it cause any problem? It's not really visible unless you look closely. Will try to take a picture tomorrow morning.

Re: D-I-Y: Smoke Tinted Headlamps & Tail Lamps

So, have ordered the film from the link you have given.
The chap says that it will be dispatched tomorrow.
How much time did it take to reach you, so that I can set my expectations accordingly.

I suppose they are markers used in manufacturing TLs. Don't know where exactly, but I've seen them on most of the cars.
