Unveiling on May 8th, VW teases the I.D .

Everything indicates that the car will receive the name Volkswagen ID.3, there are also suggestions that the variant sold at the time of the premiere will be named "ID.3 1st" (first) and it will be the version with the largest battery, 77 kWh (gross 82 kWh)



While the image doesn't show much, at least the rumors about names seem to be correct. The German manufacturer registered names for the entire lineup, from ID.1 to ID.9.

According to teasers, the car will travel "up to 550 kilometers" on a single charge, which suggests that we are dealing with the version with the largest battery. Recall, the following variants of the car were written on the official Volkswagen website:

VW ID. 45 kWh (~ 48 kWh of total capacity) with a range of 23-330 km,
VW ID. 58 kWh (~ 62 kWh total capacity) with a range of 300-420 km,
VW ID. 77 kWh (~ 82 kWh total capacity) with a range of 390-550 km.

It is possible in pre-sale from May 8 will be the most expensive variant , Volkswagen ID .3 1st edition with the largest battery and range up to 550 km on a single charge (manufacturer's declarations).

Volkswagen offers pre-booking for the first time.















- ID.3 to come with ranges from 330 to 550 kilometers (WLTP) and starting price of under €30,000 in Germany

- Exclusive pre-booking special edition ID.3 1ST with comprehensive equipment limited to 30,000 vehicles

In most markets, the ordering phase for pre-booking customers will start just after the IAA. Customers will then be able to place a binding order for one of the three exclusive ID.3 1ST models with the Volkswagen dealer they prefer. In Germany, the binding order will become effective in April 2020. Up to that point, customers will be able to cancel their registration at any time without any charge, in which case the registration deposit will be immediately refunded.

Pre-booking is being offered in 29 European markets. The most important markets in Europe for the ID.3 will be Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK and Austria. On average, Volkswagen plans to deliver more than 100,000 vehicles per year to customers.

Nevertheless, more than 10,000 registrations have been received throughout Europe in the first 24 hours. The number continues to increase every hour

Customer interest in the limited edition of 30,000 copies of the ID.3 1ST edition clearly exceeds the expectations of the brand. The IT systems were at times unable to cope with the high number of users

Volkswagen has already built the first 200 pre-series vehicles of the new electric car ID.3.





The first ID. Series vehicles should roll off the line in late 2019.

At the end of 2020, only electric cars will be built in Zwickau - up to 1,500 per day for Volkswagen and other Group brands.

nterestingly, the prorotypes appear to have been camouflaged to look like Nissan vehicles with the Japanese automaker’s signature grille.

Otherwise, the camouflaged vehicles reveal the overall design of the ID. 3.

VW says that production will start by the end of 2019, but the deliveries won’t start before “mid-2020”.

In TV ad, VW owns up to emissions scandal to set new EV agenda .

But in a new TV ad airing during tonight’s NBA Finals, the automaker tackles the issue head-on, while spinning the crisis as the impetus for its aggressive move into electric vehicles.

The TV spot, called “Hello Light,” is backed by the Simon & Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence.” It begins with a flashback of news reports of the 2015 scandal, when VW admitted to installing “defeat devices” on vehicles in an attempt to evade emissions testing. The crisis, which drew major headlines, tarnished the brand’s long-held pro-environment positioning, while resulting in an estimated $39 billion in legal settlement costs globally.

The spot quickly transitions into portraying a designer sketching electric vehicle renderings in a dimly-lit room. He grows frustrated, then is inspired by taking a look at old drawings of VW’s classic Microbus. Then come modern-day vehicle manufacturing scenes followed by a glimpse of the planned I.D. Buzz, an electric version of the Microbus set to arrive in 2022.

The MEB platform will be used as a foundation for the all-wheel-drive SUV, which will be powered by two electric motors, one for each axle. According to preliminary information, the electric powertrain will have a combined output of more than 300 horsepower (224 kilowatts)

A large battery pack will provide a range of approximately 310 miles (500 kilometers) between two charges with a possible fast-charging function, recovering up to 80 percent of the energy in 30 minutes using a 150-kW charger.

Volkswagen unveils its first EV- I,D. 3.

The VW ID.3 arrives with a choice of three different battery sizes, with top spec models offering a range of between 242 and 342 miles.
The ID.3 is being launched in a single ‘1st Edition’ spec with a 201bhp rear-mounted electric motor and a usable battery capacity of 58kWh. VW claims that gives the car a range of between 186 and 261 miles.

The wider range will feature a less powerful variant with 148bhp and a smaller-capacity 45kWh battery, for a range of between 143 and 205 miles – plus a range-topping edition that’ll mix the 201bhp motor and a 77kWh battery. This allows the ID.3 to travel between 242 and 342 miles between charges.

Electric mobility for all: the basic version of the ID.31 is priced at under €30,000.

Revolutionary interior: the Open Space concept in the ID.3 means it offers more room than any other vehicle in its category and sets new standards.

Sustainable mobility: battery, supply chain, production – the ID.3 is the first model to be carbon-neutral on delivery to customers.

At series production launch, the ID.3 will be available with three battery size options. The basic variant has a usable energy content of 45 kWh and enables an electrically powered range of up to 330 kilometres (as per WLTP). The entry price for this ID.3 version is under €30,000. Alongside this is a battery variant with 58 kW, which enables the ID.3 to achieve a range of up to 420 km (as per WLTP). The energy content of the largest battery is 77 kWh, and its electric range is up to 550 kilometres (as per WLTP). Thanks to its fast charging capability, it is possible to charge the ID.3 sufficiently for a range of around 290 kilometres (WLTP) within 30 minutes, using a charging output of 100 kW.

ID.3 1st(1) – the limited launch edition

Volkswagen started pre-booking for ID.3 1st – the limited launch edition – in May of this year.

The basic version of the ID.3 1st includes a navigation system, a DAB+ digital radio, seat heating and steering wheel heating, armrests at the front, a Mode 2 charging cable and 18-inch light-alloy wheels.

The ID.3 1st Plus additionally features a rear view camera system, ACC Adaptive Cruise Control and the Kessy Advanced keyless access locking and starting system. The vehicle interior of the ID.3 1st Plus also includes design seats, a centre console with two USB-C connections and ambient lighting. Forming part of the exterior equipment scope are tinted windows, the exterior Style package in silver, matrix LED headlights, matrix side lights, brake lights, turn indicators and tail light clusters as well as 19-inch light-alloy wheels.

The top-of-the-range version, the ID.3 1st Max, also includes an augmented reality (AR) head-up display, the Beats sound system, a large panorama sliding/tilting glass roof as well as 20-inch light-alloy wheels. This equipment scope is supplemented by a lane keeping system with Emergency Assist, a lane change system, telephony featuring contactless high-voltage battery charging and comfort seats.

Looks brilliant for the European market, sadly people here might like it only with hints of SUV design. VW India is probably interested to see if ID.3's bumper and headlight can be fitted to our 10 year old Polo and Vento.
