I think you answered your own question in these first few lines. Petrol-heads has got nothing to do with petrol. Its a general love for anything that moves, or your personal mobility equipment, be it a toy car, scale model, bicycle, a bullock cart, a car, train, truck, airplane, rocket, whatever. So, an electric future for cars, doesn't change anything. Not the least, a change in the nomenclature for 'anything that moves' lovers. You can still call them/yourself petrol head or an enthusiast, if you like to.

Plenty of good suggestions have been put in this thread already, I will not venture more.
But there's a big problem here!

Petrol means cars. Surely petrol is used for some other purposes too, but they never really lend anything to the context petrol brings in. So, the meaning of petrol head needs not be explained to anyone.

However, with EVs we don't have anything like that. Lithium Head, electric head, charger head! These all people could very well be smartphone fans, ceiling fan fans and totally hate cars.

To describe an EV aficionado, we need a proper term which brings the context unambiguously. I guess we will find that term in about a decade or so when EVs earn their place in pop culture.

Immediately to my head, I thought "Lithians". Also, the Latin term for head in the medical world is "cranium". This already finds an end-half space in the word "Lithium". Perhaps we could word-play more on this idea?

"Electroheads" could be one option! And it has symmetry with petrolheads - both named after the "fuel".

Amongst the options presented above, I like motorheads the most. After all, the motor is the primary determinant of the EV driving experience. (With the battery and the drivetrain-electronics coming close second).

Lithium isn't a good naming-candidate IMO, because the "battery" tech probably will change over time - alu air, hydrogen fuel cell or some other revolutionary (pun unintended!) solution being conceived in secret in a lab somewhere.

We call it horsepower even though there are no horses involved.

We still call them sailors when they don't use any sails.

We usually don't differentiate between petrol-heads and diesel-heads.

We can continue to call ourselves petrol-heads to maintain continuity.

When technology is moving away from ICE the so called alternative is always harped as GREEN. So let us call then "GREENHEADS".

Motor Heads It is for me. .More so as the prime mover is the electric motor. What we currently use in non EV cars are engines ( covert fuel to energy) while Motors in their true sense use electricity.

If you haven't guess it yet, i am an electrical engineer by education.
