Hyundai Ioniq 5 charging at high rates even at 80% state of charge

Hyundai Ioniq 5 (pre-production model) was spotted in Germany charging at 149 KW even at 80% state of charge. This is a very high rate of charging. Most cars with a high speed of charging mentioned in the specifications will not sustain that charge rate but will decrease the rate rapidly. The Ioniq 5 on the other hand was able to maintain a high charging rate even at 80%. The rate decreases after that but it will charge the battery very quickly.

From the source -

"During 16-minutes of charging, the car used nearly 42 kWh, which is about 157 kW on average, but we don't know the details and the starting point (we guess it could be a 22%-80% session if the pack is 72.6 kWh)"

They also mention this -

"Anyway, Generation - E included additional info in the video that the car was able to charge a 45 kW even at 96% SOC in the end, while the peak in the beginning was around 220 kW."

More details (along with the video) in the link below (video is not in English but the charging rate is clearly visible)

https://insideevs.com/news/492001/hy...149-kw-80-soc/

https://www.evnewsdaily.com/2021/03/...0-03-mar-2021/

The second link is of the podcast where I heard this news. There is some more discussion about the charge rate there.

This is quite close to the official figures of 20-80% in 18 minutes. The range is also very good. This will help in adoption of EVs by those who want to go on long road trips.

Th design elements are a tribute to the Hyundai Pony - its first car, after assembling Fords in the late 1970's. This had Mitsubishi Lancer mechanicals.

Re: Hyundai creates EV sub-brand called Ioniq

Hyundai reveals a "Plug&Charge" network known as e-pit. The name is inspired from the pit stop for racing cars. According to Hyundai, the network can charge the e-GMP cars (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis) to 80% in 18 minutes (range increase of 100 km per 5 minutes). The charging capacity is upto 350KW. The network can also charge other cars but at a slower rate. This is a good initiative and its good to see such charging speeds. Details in link below:

Hyundai patents new electric sedan design in China.

Quote:
The headlights seem to be inspired by the Kona Electric and the Creta, a crossover not sold here in the US. Based on the fact that Ioniq models have thus far all been astonishing pieces of design unlike any regular Hyundai, we know that this new design won't be a part of the regular Ioniq family. However, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric is getting a little long in the tooth, so perhaps Hyundai is looking to refresh that model. That being said, it could be replaced or killed off altogether.
Quote:
We know that Hyundai is going to sell its Ioniq vehicles here in the States, and we also know that many manufacturers have vehicles sold only in other markets like Asia. Considering that this patent was filed in China, as well as the fact that the car is clearly a non-Ioniq-brand EV, we suspect that this new model will be something that only Asian markets will experience. As such, it will likely be quite affordable and nothing special to drive. We'll follow up with more details as we get them, but it seems that our dreams of a Prophecy-inspired budget Taycan are still alive and well.

Re: Hyundai creates EV sub-brand called Ioniq

The first shipment of Ioniq 5 arrives in the port of Drammen, Norway. The production version looks sweet.

And the related news article

Quote:
According to the Norwegian Hyundai importer, the first transport ship with the electric model built in South Korea has docked in the port of Drammen. These are said to be “several hundred” Ioniq 5s, so deliveries of the special model will begin “in a short time”.

Hyundai had introduced the Ioniq 5 as the first model on the new E-GMP electric platform in February 2021. Subsequently, 3,000 units of the special model ‘Project 45’ could be ordered by customers from France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany and, of course, Norway. The fact that the ship with the first vehicles for Europe is docking in Norway has not only to do with the international importance of the country for electric mobility but also simply with the demand: according to Hyundai Norway, 42 per cent of all ‘Project 45‘, which makes for almost 1,300 of the 3,000 vehicles, are going to the Nordic country.

Re: Hyundai creates EV sub-brand called Ioniq

Saw the IONIQ 5 on the road today. The styling is clearly distinguishable and has a very good presence. Full marks on Styling.

Much bigger than I anticipated. Seems closer to a VW T-ROC than a Golf that I originally imagined it would match in size. I was so wrong to think this was another Electric hatchback.

Re: Hyundai creates EV sub-brand called Ioniq

Hyundai IONIQ 5 will launch in late October of this year. Kia will also start its EV journey in India, but will take the CBU route initially.

The IONIQ 5 will be launched as a locally assembled car rolling out from Hyundai's Chennai plant.
Quote:
expect the IONIQ 5 at the ₹ 35-40 lakh price point
Quote:
the focus for India will be on the locally assembled variant, likely to come with the 58 kWh battery. This rear-wheel drive variant makes 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. It has a single 125 kW motor and a drive range of 384 kms. Hyundai may also bring its higher spec 72.6 kWh battery variant as a limited volume import
