Good to get confirmation that the skepticism many of us here had (myself included) at the event revealing what looked like vapourware disappointingly was a bit unfounded. Hoping Mahindra can deliver.

I was a bit confused about BE being a spin off brand from the wording but now I get what they mean, they mean a new model badge. That's fair enough. Have the XUV straddle both lines (ICE & EV) and have a new nameplate to be fully associated with the EV effort.

I'm sure the frunk would be very welcome, most of what I've seen is that Mahindra offerings are let down sometimes by less than stellar boot space.

On the topic of Bose working on different models currently, wonder what type of offerings those would be considering the presentation had a pretty full line up of offerings I'd imagine would keep Mahindra busy for the foreseeable. I don't suppose Mahindra has any intention to venture outside their core competency segment of SUVs and crossovers? I imagine an EV people mover would be a welcome vehicle for the Indian market and an easy one to accomplish with the skateboard and a unibody design on top - maybe a successor to the unlucky Marazzo?

Re: Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022

Does anyone else also feel that the design (especially the front) of these BE concepts look too upright, angular and flat and don't look like something that moves? You can mistake them for a server tower, cooler etc. May be inspired by the Cyber Truck but if this is the new trend (hope it is not), it is very disappointing.

The front and rear design looks very similar to that of the EdisonFuture EF1-T
I have actually ordered this vaporware and the resemblance struck me immediately.

Re: Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022

Since this is a VW platform and VW have invested in chinese Gotion LFP battery manufacturer. This explains why Mahindra has gone with LFP in this BORN EV, compared to NMC battery in XUV400 which is based on the SsangYong Tivoli like other South Korean brands which use NMC/Lipo battery.

South Korean companies are yet to manufacture any LFP batteries.

Gotion LFP battery are also used in Tata EVs.

Re: Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022

Spotted a test car that was similar to the XUV e9, it was being tested with few other Mahindra cars. There was an Kia ev6 with temporary plates, not sure if it was part of the test for benchmarking!

Couldn't click any pics as I was driving.

Re: Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022

Mahindra on track to launch 5 EVs by October 2026.

The first-born EV SUV will join the XUV400 EV in the Mahindra line-up by December 2024.

Quote:
All EVs will utilise Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform
First launch expected by December 2024
BE.05 EV SUV was recently spied testing in India
Mahindra XUV.e8
Estimated launch: December 2024

The e8 electric SUV will likely have the same details as the current Mahindra XUV700 that it's based on. This means that the 3-row seating, silhouette and even the layout could be unchanged from the ICE counterpart however it is 45mm longer, 10mm wider and 5mm taller than the XUV700, while the wheelbase will be longer by just 7mm. The XUV.e8 gets an 80kWh battery pack and power figures are expected to range between 230hp and 350hp.

Mahindra XUV.e9
Estimated launch: April 2025

n May 2021, Mahindra greenlit the development of the coupe version of the XUV700 SUV. This version is likely to be called the XUV900 and will have a sloping roof towards the rear. There will be an EV version of this coupe SUV as well, which will be called the XUV.e9. Powertrain details are expected to be shared with the XUV.e8 SUV, with the only major difference being exterior body styling.

Mahindra BE.05
Estimated launch: October 2025

The BE.05 electric SUV was recently spotted testing in India and we even got a quick peek at the interior when Jejurikar shared its picture on Twitter. This SUV will rival the Tata Curvv that is expected to be launched by 2024. In concept form, the BE.05 is 4.3m in length and we can expect the production version of the SUV to be similarly sized.

Mahindra BE Rall-E

Estimated launch: October 2025

The Mahindra BE Rall-E is a more off-road-focused version of the BE.05 SUV. What differentiates the Rall-E from the BE.05 is that this SUV receives cladding on the body, reprofiled front and rear bumpers, chunky off-road tyres and a roof-mounted carrier with a spare tyre.

Mahindra BE.07

Estimated launch: October 2026

At 4.6m, the BE.07 is marginally larger than the BE.05, however, since it’s the same platform, the wheelbase is identical, and it will sit between the XUV700 and Hyundai Creta. It has a large panoramic sunroof, and as far as the interior goes, it has no physical buttons with a large touchscreen spanning the length of the dashboard, which relies on touch and haptic feedback.

Mahindra to launch ‘Born Electric’ EV range with BYD blade cells, Valeo electric motors.

M&M partners with BYD and Farasis for broad basing supply base for battery cells to meet product timelines.

Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022-37d588e731be41bd8d2fe7c8a99ef051_inglo.jpg

Quote:
The homegrown automaker has already struggled with battery supplies for the XUV400 which uses pouch cells from LG Chem with an NMC 532 cathode. However, the Korean battery supplier discontinued the 532 chemistry, and has been unable to supply battery cells to Mahindra in the required quantity, which was also the reason for the XUV400’s delayed launch. However, Mahindra has since managed to secure a continuous supply of batteries for the XUV400 from Chinese battery maker Farasis which makes cells with similar chemistry and construction to the ones from LG Chem.

While Farasis will supply batteries ranging from 32kWh to 40kWh for the XUV400, we have now learned that BYD will be supplying the 60kWh and 80kWh batteries for the upcoming ‘Born Electric models’. Mahindra has also secured the electric motor from French component supplier Valeo which will drive the .e8.
Quote:
dealing with VW has been more challenging than Mahindra anticipated, with lots of paperwork involved in handling IPR, legal and compliance issues.
Quote:
due to delays on VW’s part, BYD will be supplying both the 60kWh and 80kWh battery packs right from launch, until VW is ready with its next-generation ‘unified’ cell technology, which will use LFP chemistry.
Given the current political stand-off with China, BYD has no plans for cell manufacturing in India, which means in the short term, the cells will be imported from China.

Re: Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022

Mahindra future EVs specifications, features, launch timeline revealed.

The new electric SUV range will include the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07, and also the Thar.e, Scorpio.e and Bolero.e.
Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022-20230815074404_mahindra_inglo_evs.jpg
Quote:
Thar, Scorpio and Bolero to get electric variants
XUV e8 to use 231hp, rear-mounted Valeo e-motor
79kWh battery to charge from 0-80 percent in 30 mins
XUV e8, e9 to source motors from Valeo; BE 05, 07 from Volkswagen
Quote:
The XUV.e models, which will arrive earliest (see below) will use a motor from Valeo, mounted on the rear axle only. This means that, unlike the front-wheel-drive XUV700, these models that will sit alongside it will be rear-wheel drive, and will not offer an AWD option. This single motor will produce 170kW (231hp) and 380Nm, which is considerably more than Mahindra’s current EV offering, the XUV400
Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022-mahindra_evs.jpg
Quote:
More powerful still will be the motors used in the BE 05 and BE 07, scheduled for launch later on. These will be sourced from Volkswagen, with 2WD models using a rear-mounted motor producing a solid 210kW (286hp) and 535Nm. 4WD models will get a second motor on the front axle producing 80kW (109hp) and 135Nm, although the combined system output was not revealed
Time frame:

Mahindra Born Electric Vision concept EVs to be unveiled on August 15, 2022-mahindra_evs_timeline.jpg

Quote:
While the XUV.e models will share some components with today’s ICE models, the next range of born-electric SUVs, called BE, will be completely new. It starts with the BE 05, a 4.4-metre-long coupe SUV, which will be launched in October 2025, as will its off-road-focused derivative, the BE Rall.e.

The Mahindra BE 07, which is a 4.6-metre-long SUV, will likely be more luxury focused than the BE 05. While its launch timeline was earlier revealed to be October 2026, that appears to have been brought forward by six months to April 2026. Curiously, the BE 09, the largest SUV previously revealed, wasn’t mentioned in the launch timeline.
The Thar.e was of course shown in concept form, but the .e moniker will also be extended to the Scorpio e and Bolero e. What’s most interesting is that all three will be built on the INGLO skateboard platform and not the ladder-frame chassis that they currently use. However, no launch timeline was given for these three models.
