Treadmill belt has worn out in our apt complex. The incumbent AMC vendor has quoted 10k. Online search shows the cost to be between 2k and 4k. I'm looking for vendors that you guys have used for such work. Please share. Thanks.
Hi Guys, any recommendations on buying a treadmill for home use under 50k budget? I am not looking for recommendations on specifications etc (well aware of those). Need inputs on Brands, service support etc? Almost all brands available on Amazon/ Flipkart seem to be promoted ones (Chinese origin type) without any actual customer support or I might be wrong. Any feedback on HRX (which is associated with Hritik Roshan), specifications looks decent on paper. Thanks in advance.

Check out Decathlon ones.
In Bangalore, Afton has a set of good ones but I think they sell for slightly higher than 50k
Need to know some basics about buying a basic treadmill for my dad(67y.o.). He weighs about 70kgs(5'10"). His reflexes & muscle strength have dulled significantly in the past 2 years because of high blood sugar and he had a fall recently because of the sudden loss of reflex. No injuries luckily.
Basically mostly slow walking to help control blood sugar & improve/preserve his reflexes.

I would check with a doctor before buying a treadmill for the profile described. A fall should not be be brushed away casually particularly in that age group.
A seated elliptical or a stationary cycle may suit better - lower impact on the joints.

Treadmill would be too dangerous if his reflexes are not good. Elliptical or Static bicycle is a better choice.

Need suggestion in getting a good home use Elliptical cross trainer in Chennai. |
I had checked out the decathlon one; only thing which made me look the 55k model was the lack of inclination adjustment. Over time, your body will get used to any exercise. You need to be able to challenge it to keep fit. The incline adjustment is important for that.
Otherwise, this one looked just fine.
PS: I don't own one. Yet.
Never thought I would require one but here I am. I am looking for a treadmill under 50k that has automatic incline and performs stably for my frame (6ft). I realise that most pukka equipment costs more but hoping I get some good suggestions.
My background and why I am interested in a treadmill right now, is that back in highschool I used to spend 1 hour every morning training on the cycle or swimming and 2 hours every evening playing football this meant I developed a very big appetite :coldsweat back then I was 68kgs. Once I was in college, I spent my first year using my bicycle to commute nothing against the clock or challenging just as a means of transport and I was still 68kgs. Now I do not have any such regular physical activity daily and my weight is 85kgs. Joined a gym recently and what I discovered is that I absolutely love the treadmill. Just spending an hour doing low intensity exercise by walking on an incline (varying between 0-15 degrees), has helped me shed 7 kilos in two weeks. Now I am becoming lazy to go all the way to the gym and am wondering if I can get a treadmill for home use that I can simply plonk my ipad on, consume media and walk on incline whenever I am free to get back 2 hours of atleast low intensity exercise a day. I stumbled across the powermaxfitness TDA230 which seems okay online but I would really like some input from more experienced folk on this matter.
For your height you may find that the length of the walking area of the TDA230 is not sufficient. Would recommend that you visit a store where you are located and try out the machines personally before you make a final decision. In Hyderabad would recommend Regal Fitness @ MG Road, Secunderabad.
Also since you have mentioned that you intend to use your treadmill for 1 to 2 hours a day, would recommend that you choose a treadmill with an AC Motor rather than a DC Motor. DC Motor treadmills should ideally be used for not more than 45 mins at a stretch and then only after a 30 min break between workouts.
Somehow, I have always felt that an elliptical had a better appeal than the treadmill, being kinder on the knees and back due to avoidance of jerks. One can always achieve the treadmill like results by outdoor running.
Do you guys find some other reasons why treadmill should be preferred over elliptical?
Yes an elliptical has a higher calorie burn and lesser or nil impact on the joints. But treadmills with good cushioning combined with a good pair of running or walking shoes should be fine unless the user has been advised not to use a treadmill.
Outdoor running - Impact on knees and jerks would be higher as the surface is hard and the fact that most of our roads are not great.
IMHO ultimately its mostly about personal preferences as some would swear by a stationary bike as well.
It is important to find what you are comfortable using and then make the purchase as unless its used all would end up being clothes hangers or occupying space. This is why an actual store scores over the online options. Also service is easier to obtain when purchased from a physical store in most cases.

That is what I was afraid of I guess I shall have to visit a store and understand the dimensions of the belt surface and that ought to help me narrow down my selection.

I did consider an AC treadmill but heard that DC ones consume less electricity and are quieter. Considering I don't plan on using the treadmill for more than 45 minutes at a stretch (shall probably split usage at different times of the day), would it still be prudent to go for an AC motor treadmill?

The difference in power consumption is a max of 0.5 units per hour if used at max load. However you can be at rest that a motor replacement (which is a major cost) will possibly never be required. AC motors can be repaired, whereas DC motors will have to be replaced. Rewinding almost never works for long and puts excessive load on the other electronic components as well.
There will be a difference in noise levels, but it's not unbearable.
Try out both options and then make your final decision.

If you are open to options other than walking, one workout you could consider is rowing. It's one of the best full body workouts out there, which will build up your strength and stamina both. Space requirement for a rower is similar to a treadmill.
Decathlon has this model in your budget.
