Congrats Jaggu, I hope you enjoy it to the fullest.:thumbs up:thumbs up

Yeah Rudra,
Transfer to the HDD makes sense but i had it difficult on a recent trip. I was shooting in RAW+JPEG and in no-time exhausted the card, not to mention I tried AEB shots.

Jaggu,
When looking for bigger displays, get a good calibrated one buddy. My laptop monitor is so so that I cant think about post processing at all. I never bothered to shoot from my laptop as well, gotta try that one.

As for IS, I did find my kit lens IS not upto-the-mark in low light photos. Maybe it was the temperature that did me (was -10 then) :)

Waiting for Your pics.

In 25000, you won't get a camera + lens to do wildlife. Better go with an ultra zoom point and shoot.

Agree here. You cannot do wildlife in 25K with a DSLR

^^D40+ tamron 70-300 means no autofocus. Not really much fun to shoot wildlife without autofocus. By the time you are done manual focussing, the subject would have moved.

Tamron & Sigma have a specific lens that DOES auto focus with the D40 and D60 its about 1000 or 1500 Rs more then the normal wonder me thinks.

yup 18-55 IS lens, i am not very fond of live view though hooking up the lappy and shooting seemed interesting for me. I wish i had a fully motorized tripod which also can be hooked up :D 2GB will hold 115 RAW shots which is more than enough for my usage for now, good thing i have a hard disc which can be used to transfer the pics in case of emergency. Thanks for reminding i have to hook the disc up also.

Low-light macro shots i tried while holding with hand, difficult but doable (while experimenting around), will check how it behaves with IS "ON" and "OFF", priority is to figure out regular shooting first LOL. Page number 79 of manual and counting, after reading the advanced functions repeatedly, things are becoming clearer in my cloudy head.

For the time being i have limited the shooting to the show pieces at home and my pet dog. Oh yeah experimental night shot of a flyover came out well (using a very crude tripod), need to do some tweaking around with the software and then post up. The problem is i have to work for a living also, so time factor, dang!

One thing i can say, THIS is a very good time pass and an expensive hobby to have lol. Wish list: Bigger lens, bigger screen for post shoot editing. You get the drift :D

I would strongly suggest not shooting in RAW if you are a beginner. Hell I have been shooting for 3 years still dont have the guts to try out RAW. Too many possibilities in that. And I dont really need so so much control over the ISO and other stuff. Would rather decide on the spot. And RAW demands PP after shooting, and the images are quite heavy and the camera's burst rate falls quite a bit with RAW.

The remote tripod wont work great as you will have to have the camera attached with a cable, but the EOS remote utility is great as you can see a huge preview and understand the fundas of Aperture, Shutter speeds and ISO.

Trust me you can spend huge amounts but still feel you need to get better this better that :D Dont get so hyper with PP and shots, just take it out as much as you can you will see yourself improving. And do use it for general family photography as well.

That's the barrel distortion you're talking about. No, it won't go unless you shift to expensive block lenses.

I distinctly remember someone saying that Photoshop can fix that.

Finally decided on my DSLR. I am getting myself a Canon 40D this weekend with 18-55 IS lens to start with.
Thanks a lot for all the suggestions.

Amitoj, I'm talking about correction as lens. Of course you can correct that in photoshop (lens correction) filter.

Yeah, if the problem is to be eliminated at source, then one needs to dish out more dough, ofcourse.
