Havent read much about the Oly.. Can you pls throw some light on this cam. I guess I wont compromise just for 4-5k.. Only if this cam's picture clearity is comaprable to the canon/nikon will go for this.
I usually go on weekend trips with my friends and will use the cam mainly for this..

Samurai is the Oly expert but from what I'd been told - if you are going to do a lot of indoors or low light photography, the Olympus is not the right solution for you.

That is just FUD.

The Pros of Olympus E-system:

Best kits lenses across all dSLRs
Best feature set among entry level dSLRs
Very much VFM for entry level dSLRs
Standard lenses (wide/tele/normal) are very good and cheap

The Cons of Olympus E-System:

Limited sales/service support in India
Almost no resale value in India due to low market share
Noise at high ISO compared to competitors
Gets expensive if you want to buy pro quality lenses.

Since I have owned Olympus dSLRs since 3 years, I can tell you this. If you are planning to eventually spend 2 lakhs or more on body + lens in the next few years, stick to Canon or Nikon. But if you don't have big plans, your budget won't stretch beyond 1 lakh in the next few years, then do consider Olympus among your choice.

The 7-11mm lens, this lens is so good, even top professionals who use Canon & Nikon buy an Olympus body in order to use this lens. It is expensive though at $1500.

But I am an amateur too, only Rudra is the real pro around here.

Meanwhile Olympus has a cheaper alternative to E-3, it is supposedly as good as E-3 except for the weather seal and ruggedness.

I think I have just bitten by the LBA bug! stupid:
Added a third lens to my collection: the SMC Pentax-A 50MM 1:1.7

This lens was last manufactured in 1989, so I am sure it must be more than 20 years old. That's one of the reasons why I bought the Pentax K200D - its compatibility with all vintage lenses. I won an auction for this lens from eBay for £42 with the original lens covers, a Skylight filter and a nice leather Vivitar Cover. The condition is excellent, both optically and mechanically. The only drawback with using these old lenses is that there is no AF, but that's something I can live with!

I have clicked some more over the weekend. The potraits from this lens are amazing but the very shallow DOF and MF is taking some time getting used to!
