I am not a pro at photography by the farthest distance:). I keep travelling and my sole purpose of upgrading to a DSLR from a point and shoot is to click better pics. Subject could be anything. I dont intend to use it for commercial purpose and purely for personal interest

Please have a look at the prosumer/ superzoom segment too (like Panasonic FZ35). Better ease of usage, easy to carry (Since you have mentioned travel as your main usage) and really versatile. What it does compromise is in the image quality department (compared to DSLRs).

A DSLR may not give you better pics overnight. It requires investment of time (& money).

Exactly what I wanted to point out. Have a look at some high end pro-sumer cameras instead of taking the plunge into DSLR world, that too with an entry level DSLR.

A DSLR will not give you better pics overnight, and sometimes you get crappier pictures than what a good prosumer camera can give. With a DSLR you will mostly settle with the boring kit 18-55 lens and that won't allow you to zoom anywhere close to a good prosumer-zoom camera can zoom in.

+1 to Clever and Crazy driver. I use my Fuji s5600 since almost 4 years now and its my learning platform. When it comes to Manual mode, not easy to set things as a DSLR. It would take sometime for a newbie to get hold of the gun, but prosumers are easy to start with.

I thought the day was perfect for a trip to Jayesh, my first visit to his newly opened shop at Anand Rao Circle. I got the smaller items to the bag:

Nikon MB-D80 battery pack (6800)

screw adapter of low quality till I get my good one from HK (free)
Lexar Professional 8 GB class 10 SDHC card (2300) 8 GB Professional 133x SDHC

Sigma 70-200 is not available with him, but the bangalore quote is anyway higher than chennai, so I am on the 'hold' mode on that. He has a slightly used Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 for 35k and a brand new for 48k, but I have no idea about it, and never gone through any review so far.

My D90 got highly 'face-lifted' with the MB-D80 attached ! killer look !! Now the grip, feel, utility etc have gone to a different level altogether. I have heard people commenting about it at many forums, now I know for real, without this D90 will look like a baby.

Here is the new shop of Jayesh. Exclusive Canon display room, many P&S connected and fixed at the counters, bags, tripods, jackets, memory cards, lenses, batteries, studio lighting, filters and what not, this place is really 'inviting' :).

Did you notice any difference in the prices being quoted? Now that Jayesh is at an expensive location, does that affect the aggressive pricing?

No buddy, atleast not with me. I cross check atleast 4 places before I head to him till date. MB-D80 is sold at 7200 by RK which is just 500 mtrs from Jayesh now. RK is very bad in bargains, 'one quote - take it or leave it' attitude even me having taken 2 lenses from him already.

You guys might remember Unni and Ajay and few others taking a group quote for DSLR body kits few months back. RK attitude was a put off at that time, so finally Jayesh got the deal. Anyway, competition is good for us the end clients. :). Now I have the Chennai quotes to squeeze the best from here, if it doesn't work, no problem, someone will bring the stuff from the second option. Always there is a door open.

I think the urge to upgrade or add accessories is a contagious psychological disorder regardless of the field (Car or DSLR). Some are just for that 'added look', some are really useful in many practical areas. :thumbs up

Seen mostly among young professionals and you are right, most of them has two channels for the money flow: DSLRs and Cars.

I know a guy who bought D5000 without even understanding the difference between a P&S and a DSLR.

@shajufx, can you give the exact location of the new shop? Also, is this new place accessible by car as in enough parking space and stuff?

Here is an idea, the centre black mark is the building. It has enough car and bike parking space. Remember its at the right-hand side (first commercial building) of the start of oneway from Anadrao circle towards sukh sagar that joins Kempe Gowda road.

He quoted 22575 for Canon EOS 1000D forgot what all is included in the package.

Are these prices ok. The shop guy is suggesting me to buy Nikon D3000

Thanks for the info, I didnt know that Jayesh has moved his store to a new location. I was planning to go for a wide angle lens for my Canon (10-20 or similar range)

Yup. i understand that. And hence is the willingness to start. I know there is an investment of time in it. And for that i will have to begin with a entry level DSLR and move on. And the unanswerred question. Are DSLR's any cheaper in Dubai as compared to India?

Does the MB-D80 have a re-charging socket? Or the batteries have to be re-charged seperately, one by one?
