Yes, refurbished would be a good option if you are ok with it, personally I will invest in a brand new body, because even refurbished ones are not that cheap, I was not able to find any one below $700 for D90 body

Thanks for the pricing so the 41k is a nikon warranty?

He chose Canon as he is comfortable with it...and I am a canonian so some rotation of lenses is an additional advantage.

The 30d is very dated but still capable I dont have any personal experience. The 450d on the other hand Iv seen numerous people use and its a pretty neat body. Budget wont allow for a 40k body.

1)The Manfrotto 190XPROB is what i'll pick. If you are getting the Joby get the Focus. (Usable with the wireless remote and holds my canon 1D with a 10-22 without any problem).
2) The Phottix Cleons are very good. I am using it for more than a year and absolutely love it. They also work wireless on RF frequency. (PHOTTIX® CLEON II - Wireless Remotes)

Video recording makes sensor hot which is very detrimental for DLSR sensors. Dust is a non issue as dust cleaning tech. already exists in DLSRs.

The only commonality between a dSLR and a Jeep is that both are money pits. The similarity ends there. Unlike a Jeep owner, a dSLR owner doesn't have to watch out for overheating, oil levels, etc. If the sensor overheats, the camera firmware will detect it and shutdown the camera.

And sensor life, I don't think any of us amateurs will run into sensor life limits unless we keep it around for 10 years.

BTW, has anyone looked at the Olympus E-5? Serious specs, but not significant enough for a E-3 owner like me to upgrade.

Yes Dust is a non issue until you use DSLR as pinhole camera after removing lens.

Pentax k-5 at 1600$ with weather sealed body.

BTW are oly lenses weather sealed too or splash need to be restricted to body ? An important question if one is buying just for that water splash thing.

It is just an IR remote shutter release I would suggest buy a 3ed party ones at fraction of cost. There is no rocket science involved in IR remote and a cheaper one is as good as original. Also buy a 3ed party wired remote shutter release because IR remote works in line of sight from front.

In relation to my previous query, we were eyeing the 500d...but something doesnt convince me, lots of mixed reviews and a heavily depreciated body as compared to the 450d thats still holding its price.

Anyone with first hand experience with the 500d? As for 450d its a performer out and out, I'v got no doubts there.

Also getting a deal on the 550d at 37k (Kit+18-55is), HK price. Whats it like in BLR?

18-55IS comes very under rated, sure it has flaws like being soft at the long end but this has primarily been my lens for 2 years and I got it used for 3k though the AF stopped working recently :Frustrati Gives a pretty decent bokeh for a 125$, plastic toy.

Only other worthy option I considered was to go for a 17-50 tamron which is 3x the price but offers f2.8. I just couldnt see the price justification.

550D is around 44k in Bangalore with 18-55mm IS lens, covers warranty as well.

Congrats..

I am also collaborating on a new DSLR from cannon which is a Canon 550D (T2i in the US) and comes with a deal of mixing up with the lenses which i am not very much sure of. Can other experts help;

Canon t2i (18-55) + 75-300

OR

Canon t2i (18-55) + 55-250

I am reading reviews of 75-300; not to be very sharp as compared to 55-250

P.S. I am a typical P&S migrating to DSLR after i realised i was taking above average pics from my Canon A710IS.
