@Joshguy someone is selling 3ed party battery grip and an 1800mAh battery at JJmehta forum. The usual LP-E5 is 1500mAh

WTS: Opteka BG-E5 Battery Grip for 450 or 500D

I have a doubt.

The Nikon India site does not mention a 50mm prime indicating it is not officially available here. However, it is available at jjmehta for 6k odd with India warranty, Manufacturer. How?

Also, Is jjmehta e-shop trustworthy? Any good/bad experiences?

PS: Shelved my Tokina 11-16 plans for now! :(

Hey Dry_Ice, Even I'm getting the nikkor 50mm f1.8D. It's costing 5850 with VAT bill and warranty here. And without warranty, its 600 bucks cheaper.

Good choice nitrous ji. :)
You must be getting it in Chennai.

jjmehta price comes to 5901 with VAT, Bill, Shipping and Nikon India Warranty (1 year - as per them).

Will look around, but my guess is there won't be much of a difference in price. Hyderabad gurus, any pointers?

nitrous,

After reading about this lens on various sites I ordered it and my cousin just brought for me a Canon EF 50mm f 1.8 II from US.

After the test shots, the sharpness of this lens amazed me, pitted against a 24-105 L IS USM, the body used was my 5D Mk II at 1/100, f-18, focal length 50mm.

It is a very noisy and very fast lens but very Sharp, even beating the 70-200 L IS it is said. For about 100$, the cheapest and the one of the sharpest lenses, though OT just wanted to share with you.

Regards,

Both photographs are untouched.

I own both the 50 1.8 II and the 70-200 f4l IS and I can assure you that the 70-200 is noticeably sharper. You've taken the two shots at f/18, diffraction effects become significant after F/11.

It is available on Nikon India site and price is 6290/-

Products --> Lenses --> FX Format --> Single Focal Length --> Normal

Its available on JJMehta and at eBay (via JJMehta's shop) as well. People have shared good experience with JJMehta online but might be for better safety you can buy it from them using eBay.

I am planning to get it during Fotofair in delhi most probably on this Saturday, 8th Jan'11.

Actually TheBeastFieast forgot to mention he was referring to Nikon 50mm f/1.8D. In link you provided, the first lens is 50mm f/1.4 G (without aperture ring on lens, with Silent motor!) second one is 50mm f/1.4 D (this is with aperture ring on lens, but without built in motor, meaning won't auto focus with camera not having focus meters(D3100, D5000)) and last one is what TheBeastFieast was referring 50mm f/1.8D (without motor, with aperturering). All three lenses are FX format lens works on FX as well as DX (with 1.5 magnification).

50mm f/1.8D is good lens for Fx bodies. For DX bodies 35mm f/1.8G is better lens (gives effective 50mm distance, cost Rs13170 :Shockked:).

Fazal, congrats on the new lens.
What do you mean it is a very noisy lens?

Aroy, TheBeastFieast, RaguHolla - Thanks for pointing it out! I was looking in the DX section. My Bad.
Its available in Delhi for around 5700, with warranty. Can't visit for another month and obviosuly don't want to wait that long!

Any Hyderabad contacts guys?

Would love expert opinions/thoughts on my lens purchase.

I currently use 2 Nikkor VR lenses. 18-55 and 55-200mm.
As everyone say, the best shots are always missed on those lens change moments. :)

So,I'm planning to get one 18-200 /250 lens.

Nikkor VR models looks too costly.
Sigma and Tamaron looks promising.

My question is, if I chose and old non VR,non OS (or whatever optical stabilization methods the newer models have) 18-200 model ,will it be a good move?

I don't plan to sell off the existing models till I get comfortable with new one.

My main worries are:
1.Is it possible to shoot without tripod on these lenses on higher FLs.? Say 150-200 range?

2.Is it good on low light situation?

3.Does the sharpness, performance reduce compared to 2 lense method?

waiting for valuable feedbacks/suggestions from peers here.

He's referring to the auto focussing noise.

I have used a 18-200 VR IIRC ( old gen VR) and I hated how it hunts on low light.

I also have used a Sigma 18-250 which was better than the 18-200 VR but both are heavy!

1. This is a relatively slow lense, so if you have to use it in low light or at high speed you will need a tripod.

2. Not much.

3. In general the FX format primes are faster and sharper than zooms.

Normally the higher the focal length the more vibration induced blur, hence VR lenses are better here. Further the autofocus hunts more in low light. Thus it depends on what you want to shoot. If it is relatively static subject a tripod would help. If it is moving object in low light (birds/animals) then a fast VR lense is desirable.
