I'm debating whether to sell my beloved 18-200 and go for 28-300. I'll have to see how much I actually miss between 18 and 23.

If you have a DX DSLR in which case it would be best to stick to the 18-200. The 28-300 is the Nikon's answer to an 18-200 10x+ type of zoom on FX DSLRs.

Rgds,

Hi all ,

I need a advise from you all.An canon 75-300 lens with autofocus is available for sale in 2nd hand and is quoted 7k ,it is three months old and bought in US.

Is it worth buying or can i buy new for 11k? or some lens with IS?

Congratulations. I bought mine a few days back myself. All the best and happy shooting. Pictures that is. :)

@joshguy
The 70-300 IS USM version is a better lens as I know; costlier yes, but good lenses are investments, camera bodies come and go, at the end it is the lens that lets the light in and as such determines the happiness quotient :)

Not worth IMO. Suggest you to get 55-250 IS for 10.5k which is a much better lens.

It is there in the previous page. As I said earlier, what about the 550D users? Does Canon always do this? That is launch new models in quick succession?

Canons releases are faster compared to Nikons.
D5000 and 500D were released on almost same time frames.
2 new releases happened after 500D but D5000 is still available in market.

Nikon announced a bunch of Coolpix cameras this week coinciding with Canon's press release. Among them is the P500 with a 36x (!) zoom that goes from 22.5 mm to 810 mm (FX equiv).

I hope that ALL didn't had prime lenses and old manual lenses!!!

Is it a USM or non-USM?? As per Amazon, the USM one is $200. Non-USM one is $150.
A friend of mine had a 75-300. He was not satisfied with it. Sold it and bought a 55-250 IS!! The 75-300, I heard from him was noisy and had a slow AF motor and the motor was power hungry!!

I agree with him. I have used this lens on a photowalk. It is indeed a good buy.:thumbs up

What about them ? In any case,

* There is a 1 year difference between 550D and 600D. 1 year is a long time in this space/market. Even Pentax introduced k-r just a year after k-x.

* Going through the preview on dpreview quickly, the major *useful* change I see is the flip LCD. Apart from it, looks like everything else is marketing hype. Even the fps hasn't been changed, which they could have easily done.

All in all, good news for new buyers, who will get the 550D much cheaper in the coming months ! And existing/recent 550D buyers really don't have anything much to regret about.

I myself use a 550D, and its only few months since I got it. So as said, new releases keep coming. But need to see, if they phase out 550D or will sell alongside.

Dear Josh

This lens performs poor in low light and it doesnt have IS. I would suggest you go for the 55-250 IS which is far superior to the 75-300 and that extra 50mm will not make much of a difference and having IS is must in low light and tele zoom. This might cost you 10.5K new.

Novices also have intelligence :), when you use one over the other, you know the difference. Right ? Thanks for the luck & no thank you, nothing else.

I sold off ALL my old Nikkor lenses yesterday, 2 of them going back to the early 2000s, and purchased the newly launched "walk-around" Nikkor 28-300 AF-S VR-II which is possibly a bit rare at this point in time. 2 Hoya HMC UV filters are on back order and will be in my bag later this week.

It is rather hefty at 800g but that's better than carrying around multiple lenses. The 28-300 will be my vacation lens. It has mostly good reviews but pros trash it for obvious reasons. Well, the thing is, you get what you pay for.

@ Ricky_63 - Congrats and good luck with your new D90. Photography brings me peace of mind and I am sure it will do the same for you.

Cheers!

Thanks & I sincerely hope that it does the same for me !!

Congrats,

But 55-300 is a wrong choice. You should have gone for 70-300, which is far far
better and sharp lens.

BTW why did you felt the need of upgrading, D60 is an awesome body, much much more for a novice :)

The 55-300 I have ordered is cheap-er, it will work like a motorized lens on the D90, hence the choice.

I agree the D60 is great too !!
