As per the make of your lens model. Usually 18-55 and 55-250 gets a 52mm or a 58mm. This again you can identify on the lens itself.

I am using Hoya 58mm UV Filter, which I bargained and got while purchasing my 550d.


By the way I am looking for a canon 50mm F1.8 lens, Any known good stores having the best price, in Bangalore?

I am looking to get Tiffen 2 stop nd and a 2 stop gnd filter. I know LEE has the best reviews, but nothing seems to be available from LEE right now (eyeing the big stopper as well).

Should I go in for Tiffen now or wait for LEEs to arrive? Time being, I am manipulating the images in PS to give a similar effect of GND. Not satisfying one bit but I like the results! And looking at them, I feel ever so strongly to get the filters ASAP!

Both Hoya and Kenko are made by Tokina. Between the 2, if you have a choice, go for Hoya. Just be careful as there are many fakes floating in the market. Preferably buy directly from Interfoto in Mumbai (the distributor for India) or their authorised dealers.

I use Hoya's HMC & HD range of UV filters. All I can say is that the HDs are beyond reproach, right up there with the likes of B+W that too at comparatively reasonable prices. I am plannning to buy a a Hoya HD CIR CPL and ND as well. :)

B+W if you are willing to spend the money. Otherwise Hoya HD. There is a B+W dealer in delhi. Write to them and they will give you a good price.

I myself have been using the Hoya UV, but then the hunt for the right one dawns me. Now that am assured that Hoya is more preferred i would lay my hands on that.

Just to know where is Interfoto's location. Or maybe their distributors in Mumbai?

For those looking to buy Nikon 50mm f1.8, I suggest waiting for few weeks since Nikon confirmed 50mm f1.8G and older 50mm f1.8D will go cheaper soon, just because of inability to do AF with cheaper bodies.

Its already priced hat 50% of the expected price of the AF motor one. I doubt it will go much cheaper. Both canon and Nikon 50mm 1.8 primes have not lost their price since quite a few years!

What is the advantage of the battery grip ?

I wanted to buy an extra battery for my Canon DSLR, while googling I found an accessories called Battery Grip. Would like to know what is the advantage of having battery grip ?

Battery grips are actually extra battery holders/cassettes for DSLRs, whereby increasing the life of the camera. They are usually Camera mounted. Usually it depends on the camera make and model. Specific grips for specific cameras. They add to the camera ergonomics for the handling of the camera body too.

But in my opinion, DSLR batteries have enough charge for approx 500 images. Why to carry an extra bulk? Not required AFAIK.
