I very well know what you are saying but you omitted a necessary condition in my statement "If there was no scattered light"
Well once you have polarized the light and cut the light in planes other then polarizing plane what you get is reduced light flux the net result in reduction of intensity.
So when you are talking of vignetting there is no difference principally , weather flux intensity reduces due to absorption ( ND) or polarization.
Anyway it is also not absolutely necessary that you use ND only tripod mounted , Creating motion blur is one of the many use cases of ND but not the only use case. A more common use is to reduce the harsh sun.
Also ND8 and ND4 stacked can be used to shoot with open lens to give shallow DOF. I have sucessfully used ND8 to produce soothing photos in mid afternoon |
Sorry I did not want to argue and as such I completely ignored your post. But since you brought it up.
CPL works by polarising light from all planes. 2 stops of light reduction comes from cutting scattered light from reflections.
I didn't said anything about vignetting. ND stops light by absorption while CPL stops reflected scarttered light.
I said "For IMAGING ND filter is used mostly with tripods.", I never said always. There are ofcourse other uses of ND filter, as you said for cutting harsh sun, you will find almost every (not all) pro video cameras have built in ND filters, so one can use lenses wide open.
But I would like to end this argument here.

Let me know how the 16-85 VR handles. I got an eye on it lol:
Also how come you want IR filters ?
Hey All,
Got a Canon EOS Kiss X4 in Japan (EOS550D/Rebel T2i) :D for roughly the Indian equivalent of Rs 35,500. Got two lenses with the kit - 18-55 AF-S IS and 55-250 AF-S IS. It is my first heavy-weight spend and Im delighted!
I did a six month research before settling for the 550D. A rather long period I say. The D5000 & D3000 went out of sale in Japan in Nov-Dec 2010 (only old stock were left). I didn't want an old model either so the only realistic choices I had in Dec were the 500D, 550D and D3100. D3100 was fresh from launch and cost me more than 550D. Heck, the 550D's specifications blew me away. Canon even gave me a 5000 yen cash-back meaning a final figure of around Rs 33,000 only for a double lens kit! An absolute bargain!
One piece of advice to all - buying DSLRs in Japan is highly recommended. Canons get the enviable 'Made in Japan' mark while Nikons are assembled in Japan. Makes a big difference. However, body gets only a one year Japan warranty while lenses get one year international. Above all, pricing is much lesser compared to India (my 550D is a classic case in point). :thumbs up
One more piece of advice - STAY AWAY FROM EBAY! YOU NEVER KNOW THE CAMERA UNTIL YOU RECEIVE IT!
Cheers.
So subscribed to this thread. Let's see what's what.

Pretty sure those can be achieved with a bit of PP.
I thought you wanted to go hardcore IR. I got a Pentax K200D converted to Full Spectrum but never did anything with it lol:
Congratulations TSK for the new Cam ,
Which IR and in what thread size you were using earlier ?
Unrelated but watch this video and repeat test at home to find how sturdy your cam is

Nope, proper IR effect can never be done in PP. the ones I posted are Weak IR. I have stronger shots too

thanks Amit
Mostly 52mm, on the 50mm lens.
Most canon lenses have hotspot issue.
Posting here for the first time. I have a 2 year old setup comprising of a Nikon D60, Nikon 18-55 VR kit lens, Sigma 70-300 non APO version and a Nikon 50mm 1.8D.
Last week, while shooting kites, the Sigma's auto focus failed. Its refusing to auto focus and camera does not click. In the view finder on the press of shutter I see er02 coming up. Is it an Error Code? The lens works fine in Manual Focus mode. Any place I can show the lens to in Hyderabad?
Also, thinking of upgrading the body to D5000 or D7000. But might have to postpone if the Lens repair proves costly.
MaSh
Attention all those wishing to buy a Canon or a Nikon in the future!
Both plants are currently shut due to the nuclear situation there and may not open for quite some time yet. Stocks in market may go down and it may not be possible to get a camera even at insane amounts. Get one now!

Here is the address for Nikon Authorized Service Center :-
1st Floor,Above Bank of Baroda,Beside Reddy Hostel, Hotel Jaya International Lane,Abids,Hyderabad -500001
Andra Pradesh +91-40 66460248 Landmark: 200 meters before Papaji Ka Dhaba:)
I didn't want to start a new thread as this one already exists. I bought Panasonic Lumix GF1 a few months back with 14-45mm f3.5/5.6 kit lens and a circular polarizing filter. I am going to buy 20mm f/1.2 and 45-200mm f4/5.6 now.
I have been happy with the results for the size of the camera and lens. Small yet powerful.
It technically wouldn't qualify for DSLR as it is a prism less micro 4/3rd format camera. The equivalent focal length to SLR would be twice. So 14-45mm lens gives equivalent focal length to 28-90mm on SLR.
Has anyone used this camera? If so, could you please share some experience and techniques.
mobike, I think he is looking to show is Sigma lens and not the Nikor one.

Oh nice, address noted. However, its a Sigma Lens. Nothing wrong with Camera as its working fine with other lenses. Need a place that could check a Sigma lens.

Correct.
Any one experienced such an issue with their lens?
Hi Folks,
I am planning to buy Nikon D3100 with 18-55 + 50-300 mm lens to start my DSLR photography. I have gone through several post and forms in the internet and I just liked this model more than any other models in the entry level sector.
Just want to know if anyone has better thoughts other than D3100 ?
I have my lovely machine of capturing moments for past 3yrs now.
I have Canon EOS 400D with 18-55mm f3.5/5.6 EF-S kit lens, 90-300mm f4.5/5.6 EF-S and my personal favorite VFM prime lens 50mm f1.8 EF. None of the lens have image stabilisation. The crop factor is 1.6 and I have already used half the click life of my camera.
I wish to sell 18-55 and 90-300 to buy 18-85 f2.8 IS and some telephoto with 50-400mm from SIGMA or TAMRON. But cant really afford these kind of lenses at the moment :(
