Good effort with the software rendition, but the results can never be matched i guess.

There are two aspects -one the direction of light which leads to the shadows seen in the edited image(which will remain even if shot in RAW) and the color of the subject and surrounding(again a massive different)

No there is a different variant which will work for the Canon cameras, only the mount is different, everything else is exactly the same(including the price).

TOR, the pic looks great & natural with the Nissin flash!
Looks like external flash is necessary for indoor shots.

Phamilyman, Congrats, I thought you were a Nikon fan?

Jaggu, I paid 900 bucks (4 GB card) after giving back the free 2 GB card that comes with the 450D. I'm assuming it should be around 1200 Rs.

Guys any Idea about the cost of a 8GB & 16GB Class 6 Card? Should I go for Sandisk or Transcend, Which one is better?

Yes - totally. Canon ergonomics is quite sad, esp 40D.

However, ergonomics be damned ... I studied economics!

My Daily Photo is the stepping stone
Well - if you got a kit worth 62k at India prices, in just 43k (incl exchange rate 3.5%) would you not grab it?!

The other competent alternative was the D90 (around 48k body without the lens) in gray in Delhi. Look what I got instead.

Speaking of deals, I am now requiring a SDHC card. Which one is recommended?
eBay India: SANDISK 8GB SD MEMORY CARD SDHC !! TAXES INCLUDED!! (item 350244781110 end time 02-Sep-2009 16:49:05 IST)
eBay India: SANDISK 16GB SD HC CARD + 5 YRS WARRANTY 16 GB SDHC (item 110428239024 end time 02-Sep-2009 16:48:07 IST)

8 GB is more than enough even if you shoot in RAW

@ phamilyman - Those cards are Class 2. Go for a Class 6 card for better speed. If you still want to go for Class 2 then go to Jjmehta eShop - jjmehta.com eShop. They are selling 16GB for 2k only.

Anyone recommend a place to buy a grey market D40 or D40x in Mumbai? I know about Heera Panna and Fort, but any specific guy/shop?

Got Mine too

Thanks to all who helped me with their suggestions and recommendations. Heart wanted Nikon D90 but the budget at this point was a bit of an overkill considering my level of expertise.

I bought the Canon EOS 500 D with kit lens (18-55mm) ( Kiss x3 or Rebel t1i) after much delibration. Things that tilted me in its favor over the Nikon 5000D were.

1) Nice clear LCD screen (920,000 pixels for Canon to nikon D5000's 230,000 pixels ). The feedback/ Review of the image would be more clear on the Canon I felt
2) Bundled Software much better in Canon than Nikon.
3) My close friend has about 3 lenses for his Canon 350D and I can Use it incase I need it.

Downside of the 500D may be reduced battery life because of the High resolution 3 inch LCD and the 15 Mega pixel resolution. I guess it will serve me well as I dont intend to use it that much on a single go. The ergonomics are slightly off track with some buttons placement. But i can live with it.

Though I should say Nikon as per my search was a slightly better camera over all.

Here is what I bought

Canon EOS 500D Kit ( 790 USD)+ 8 GB Transcend class 6 Mem Card( 25USD) + Chammy leather for cleaning the lens ( 3.5USD)+ Camera Pouch( 30 USD) + Tripod ( 30 USD).

I got some discounts on the accessories and i ended up paying 850 USD.

Warranty 1 year in Vietnam and Japan ( I guess they Do Not import these from Japan through legal channels as official canon dealers sell the same products at almost 30% more than the product cost you get at some of the shops)

Now the actual task of doing justice for the equipment. I will Try and
here is my first pic( cropped) as i begin to unlock the mysteries of photography( haha). Will use the other thread for future pictures if they come out decent.

The unlocking begins

I was looking for used/grey d40 but the avilability and the current price (24k grey) made me to settle for Nikon d50 (used for 20k with new 18-55 and used 70-300G + accessories). I think it is better to buy cannon 1000d (26+ Warranty) unless you are Nikon fan. My opinion.
