Nope, E-P1 is a proper SLR where you interchange lenses like any SLR. It has in-body IS unlike Canon or Nikon offerings.

Canon 1000D with an 18-55 lens would just fit in that price range. If you opt for 18-55 IS lens it would exceed your budget by approx 3 grands. But 18-55 IS lens is the one you should go for now.

Sankar, sorry for the dump question but what's the difference between 18-55 and 18-55 IS lens ?

IS Lens are one swhich have inbuilt image stabilisers (in the lens and not body). So in case of camera shake, the lens takes care of it and helps in images not getting blurried.

On the warranty front, what are the chances of something going wrong in the Camera Body. Does Nikon have international warranty?

Jango, Apart from what MC have said, the IS lens is said to be optically superior to its non IS counterpart. This is another good reason to opt for the 18-55 IS lens.

If your budget is 26-27k, please take the Nikon D3000 instead of the Canon 1000D. The Nikon comes with a kit IS lens.

Also, the D3000 is a newer and slightly better cam than the 1000D according to reviews.

The one and only factor that would make me go for the 1000D over D3000 is that I wouldn't have to worry whether a lens will autofocus with my camera or not. For ex: The nifty fifty (50mm f1.8) will autofocus with 1000D where as the counter part in Nikon won't autofocus as the motor has to be on the lens.

jango, with an IS lens you also can shoot at slightly slower shutter speeds in low light conditions without having to worry about camera shake.

Friends,

This threat is losing steam compared to other threads. Guess everyone is tired like me waiting for Nikon D90's price to fall further.

To jive things a bit and get the discussion "cold started" (Current strategic doctrine) two questions:

1. For Canon users: Will 550D be successful? and how will it impact the DSLR market. My guess would be that it is going cannibalize 500D significantly

2. For Nikon users: How do you feel the impact is going to manifest on D90 prices and if anyone has information about impending D90 upgrade, please let us know.

I am not bringing D5000 here which could perhaps be a direct competitor to 550D because frankly the Canon wins on every count, so I believe D90 is the target. What say?

I have a few questions, I need a good zoom lens for my alpha 230, the options are minolta 70 - 210 aka the beer can and 75 -300 aka the big beer can, I know that these lenses are out of production and these were once sold for less than 100$ are now difficult to get for 200-250, I also herd sony has a cheaper (non G) 75-300, can anyone find out the price the morons here in sony world no zilch about these lenses and are talking wierd things like i have to pay advance (without knowing the price, rediculus).

I am also planing to go to delhi in may- june, so if any delhi bhpians can find out the cost, i can use these 2-3 months to convince wife about the upcoming damage.

Thanks for the reply, i was thinking of a used minolta, a fellow member Deky had put his entire A200 gear which had a body a 18-70 kit lens and a Minolta 70 300 big beer can for sale long back, he said he got his 70-300 for 10k. So i was expecting a similar price range.

A good copy of the beercan if you come across one would be a good buy IMHO, for many more years.
Looks like Mumbai Fort area is a good place to buy used Minolta lenses, according to some photography boards, I haven't been there personally but would like to check out someday.
