Canon EF 100 F 2.8 USM gives better working distance and is very sharp and fast focus.

Thanks for the recommendations. I wasn't aware of the Raynox adapters - will surely take a look when I look for a wide angle "lens". And yes, aware of the Canon EF 100 F 2.8 USM but it is way too costly compared to the 60 mm. I've finally bought one through a friend in the UK for around 20k - used.

The d7100 is looking impressive - apart from the potential buffer issue. Seems that the D400 will also be released in second half of the year.

And the long awaited 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S VR is scheduled to be released on Mar 14th. Hopefully with the latest VR used in 70-200mm f/4 that gives a claimed 5 stop advantage.

A D7100 (or D400) + this new 80-400mm could give a 800mm reach. Will need to see how the new lens holds up against the 70-200mm f/2.8 + 2X TC III combo in terms of image quality, responsiveness and price.

Exciting times for wildlife enthusiasts - specifically, those who can't afford or justify those long prime lenses.

Hi guys, I just came across the below pic on fb and was blown away by the clarity of it considering it was taken in low light in the middle of the night. The picture description mentions it was taken by a Nikon D600 and the shutter was left open for 42 seconds.

Its common knowledge that the Nikon D600 is a Full Frame (Fx) camera. So my question to the experts is, would i be able to get clarity somewhere close to this from a Dx format camera using the right lenses? Lets say from a Nikon D5100 or a D7000? I am specifically asking with regards to low light photography as is the case with the picture below. I know fx cameras are in a league of their own so i am not expecting dx cameras to give me same quality pics, but I would like to know how far down are dx cameras compared to fx cameras when shooting in very low light? Lets assume that on a scale of 1-10 the Fx camera is a 10, then where would a D5100 score comparatively speaking?

Have you seen Tanveer's photographs on various threads? That should give you a fair idea about what you can expect from D7000. He might be able to best quantify it, so check with him.

Check some of the photos (color pencil,water drops) taken with Raynox DCR 150 adapters using 55-250 zoom lens.

Wow - those shots of the pencil tips are really, really good. How I wish I'd got your reply before I placed the order. Good lens - but this will help when I make a decision to get a wide angle lens. Thanks!

The long awaited successor to the 80-400 AF-D is here. It was announced today 5th March '13.

Price is $2696 (INR 148K) in the US, it will be interesting to see how this lens' performs with VR nano coat and 2 ED + 1 Super ED element. Oh yes it even takes a TC 1.4 and will focus @ F8 with some newer Nikon cameras. It gets the gold ring so it means you can expect pro level performance. Surprisingly it has VR2 not VR3

Let's wait to see how Nikon India prices it.

It's been released today

PS - Now all they need to do is introduce the D400 and hit the ball right outa the stadium.

PPS - This lens is more expensive than the 70-200 F/2.8 VR II which works well with TC2.0 E III @ a constant aperture of F/5.6. The new lens better deliver.

Nikon India has still not released the 70-200 F4, I called them couple of weeks back inquiring about it and they did not have even a time frame for that.

The 70-200 F4 has been released. It's priced @ an MRP ~84K (cannot remember the exact price) though the price hasn't been updated on Nikon's website. I got this MRP from a dealer.

Update: The new 80-400 AF-S VR II is priced at INR 179,950 about 8K more than the 70-200 2.8 VR II. Availability is end March onwards.
