I am considering the O2 atom myself...........

Dont know whether to buy it from abroad or in india.

It costs about 28.5K in india with a one year warranty.

Guys please let me know if any of you'll are getting it cheaper.

O2 runs on Linux????

Since when? It runs the same OS as the imate and the eten. Imate uses a TI processor, O2 an Intel processor and the Eten uses a really zippy Samsung.

Best of the lot - Eten. NO two ways about it.

Sorry - I didnt see this one. The camera is very responsive in the sense that it doesnt take as much time to load up as the imate or the Atom. About 5 seconds the first time and subsequent frames load as soon as you press the button.

Picture quality....is pretty much in the average cameraphone levels. Not much, but does its job in good light.

The Atom takes about 6 secs for teh 1st frame and then about 2 secs for each subsequest frame the latest ROM update has helped I guess.

what i'd like

1. default number should be "mobile" not "work"
2. the ability SMS a person who has given you a missed call by just using the phone book. right now i have to call up Messaging and then create a message instead of just hittting the Missed Call and having a Send SMS message option come up.
3. letter recogniser gets stuck on some letters but maybe it is just that I need more practice (given that I used Graffitti for 10 years+).
4. larger type font (even the largest is not large enough for my old eyes).

Hey Steeriod,
It was a mistake on my end. I got confused and thousght that the o2 runs on Linux. Its acutally the A1200 ming and E680i as what Devarshi mentioned.
Sorry for the mistake.

what i'd like

1. default number should be "mobile" not "work"

You choose the default - tap gently (dont tap and HOLD) on any of the numbers in contacts and a small pop-up will show all 3 numbers. select the one you want and it will remain that way till you change it again.

2. the ability SMS a person who has given you a missed call by just using the phone book. right now i have to call up Messaging and then create a message instead of just hittting the Missed Call and having a Send SMS message option come up.

You can tap and hold on the missed call in call history and it will throw up a menu that says 'Call', 'Send Text Message', 'Send Email' and some other option. You dont have to call up messaging. You can also do this directly from contacts by tapping and holding on the contact for the pop up menu. Looks like you havent really been using the PDA the way it should be used

3. letter recogniser gets stuck on some letters but maybe it is just that I need more practice (given that I used Graffitti for 10 years+).

Dont know - I dont use letter recognizer. Windows automatically adds custom words to your dictionary so typing is not an issue.

4. larger type font (even the largest is not large enough for my old eyes).[/quote]

Sorry - the Atom can do most stuff, but I doubt if it can reverse ageing....

this guy here says the jamin is better than the atom
http://www.mtekk.com.au/Forums/tabid...et-Review.aspx
he also mentiones that skype works on the jamin, though its a bit slow.
id get the jamin (over the eten or atom) mainly cause of size and overall features. processors are different in the atom and jamin so no use just comparing the speed.
p.s ive never played around with the eten600 but i kno for a fact that it has a very fast processor, but the size is a bit big for my taste.

features wise.

Atom is 10grams lighter than Neo
Atom's screen is brighter than Neo
Atom has stereo speakers
xscale 416mhz compared to Texas 200mhz (xscale crushes Texas cpu)
Atom has wi-fi b while Neo has wi-fi b/g (Neo reaches much higher speeds)
Atom Bluetooth 1.2 beaten by Bluetooth v2.0 on Neo
Neo got better(macro-mode/faster) camera than Atom (has a flash though)
Better radio( quality+visual) on Atom than Neo.

So if your priority is brigther screen, faster non-choppy videos with stereo speakers, faster applications and radio, Atom is the choice

but if
Wireless compatibility and speeds( internet speed depends on wi-fi radio signals and not cpu)
bluetooth comaptibility, and better camera are your priorities then go for neo.

In my opinion Neo has better standby time while Atom has better talktime.

A full-size Sd-card slot and quad-band compatibility are also Neo's strengths.

The Texas Cpu takes 2 cycles to complete an operation which is similar to the intel xscale cpu hence Atom eats Neo for breakfast itself.

Also look at HP rw6828 which is the Same Xda Atom alebeit with much better software reliability.

http://www.rw6828.com/

While i would go for Neo/jamin The Atom in the HP guise makes an equally good option.

Any idea when 600+ will be coming?

And devarshi, can u plz explain the differences b/w atom and eten M600 as u have described atom vs neo?

Yesterday i checked my Aussie friend's atom and i really liked its look, bright screen with excellent colours and excellent sound quality.Add a 2gb sd card and ur i-pod is ready.
I wanted to buy a phone for abt 15-20k and he can get me this phone at about 60% of aus. price somehow[which is aus $800-900].
but i am confused between eten600 and atom though both looks almost similar.

eten M600 is triband compared to Xda Atom
Atom is smaller than M600
Atom weighs 25grams less than m600
Atom screen is brighter but M600 has a sharper screen
Atom has strereo speaker against M600
M600 has SDIO compared to Atom's Mini Sd
416mhz cpu in atom compared to 400mhz cpu in M600
Atom has edge which M600 lacks
similar wi-fi and bluetooth characters
atom has infrared if you need one against m600
Atom has Xhtml browser too while m600 only runs html
atom has 2mp mediocre cam against 1.3mp mediocre cam on m600
atom has fm radio which M600 lacks
atom has a better talktime while M600 has a better standby ( printed)

M600 if you want a novelty looking phone which you can take everywhere around the world. Also if you have a trouble reading small fonts then eten m600 does the job. SDIO is the best option today against all the other memorycards and very much standardized. IO capability lets you addon onther antenna capable features such as GPS. good if you use other functions more and make a few calls.

on the other hand Atom packs too much in the small unit. radio, Xhtml browser, stereo speakers, Edge and stereo speaker. Good if you are using your phone function a lot.

Overall M600 is a put togather well with whatever it has.
Atom has all the features packed in they could at the time but still my second recommendation compared to the two.

1. THEY ARE WINDOWS MOBILE (also known as POCKET PC) NOT Palm.
2. You cannot compare jamin with the atom coz O2 has released the O2 Mini S which is in its competion.
3. I owned the atom and now own the O2 Mini S and Mini S is the best with everything you can think of it has an integrated keyboard and is very very user friendly.
4. I say buy the O2 Mini S

I hope you are refering to XDA IIS which is a bigger device and has a sliding keyboard. O2 Mini and O2 XDA II S have previous versions of PocketPC wheras Atom has the current Windows Mobile 5.
