@ Dash,
Thank you for your review on Airtel Set top box. I am thinking on getting one for my home and your review serves me really good.

We watch all sorts of channels at home: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English movies, English news channels, all sports channels, Nat Geo, Animal Planet, Discovery, Travel & Living, History, all music channels, FTV, all cartoon channels including Chutti TV and Hungama !!

I was in similar situation, except that I was looking for Kannada channels. I got BigTV's South Popular package @ 2190 for 1 year (all included). Checkout this package if it meets your requirements (
Smart South 2190 - BTW, this link is not updated with all channels).

After sale service is also excellent for Airtel. Go for it:thumbs up
That must have taken some effort -- Thank you!clap:
I wonder why the COLOURS channel is not a part of the Reliance Bouquet - All other DTH services have them one way or the other! (either as a part of the basic package or an add-on)
Hi guys,
I have tata sky since more than a year. But am now waiting for IPTV, which would have real video on demand apart from PVR. And probably HD content also in future. And greatest benefit is no interruption during rains (you know how it rains during the 3 months in Mumbai)
So would advise all to consider this option also before taking the plunge. Ofcourse it depends on how bad your cable is and how long can you wait.

Bombay is probably one place where you don't require DISH.
All the years I have spent in Bombay, had never any problem with cable.
Maybe 2-3 times a year, you have 5-10 minutes interuption, nothing
more than that. Even in places in Bombay which have a power problem
(Mulund etc), the cable guys have a generator, so if you have an invertor
your cable is going to be fine.
And the quality of cable is also good. Even in the worst rains, there is
hardly any disturbance. Even after the really bad 2005 rain when the
whole city was flooded, cable at my parent's place was up within 12
hours of the rain stopping - this is the probably the biggest ever interuption
of cable ever.
I don't recall ever calling the phone number of the cablewallah ever in
Bombay, other than for the install.
Places like Pune, Hyderabad etc are pathetic - atleast those areas
where I have lived in these cities. You need your cableguys number of
speed dial usually till you realize it's no use calling them.

@Msdivy, how was the experience of getting Reliance DTH installed? I am planning to move to the same package as currently with all damn add-ons i pay over Rs.350 per month for Tata Sky:Frustrati

Only the channels that are present on the reliance website will be there and not all the channels as mentioned in another post. Initially, they will be giving all the channels, but within a month, channels like Cartoon Network, Pogo, Neo Cricket, Neo Sports, HBO, Zee Studio and some other channels will be removed and only the channels that are present as part of the package on the website will be there. Its not that the web site is not updated.
^^ I guess the default is to install all the channels.
Then when the system gets your package details and so on they will send instructions to your set top box.
This will restrict you to your chosen plan and the other channels will be disabled.
I have the DISH Full Package currently with the Tamil/Malayalam Regional channels.
What package should I opt for to get a similiar lineup in BIG Tv?
So what I read is that BigTV has got many channels on their xyz packages but then those channels are taken off after a few months. How much are the charges for re-enabling them? Is it more than what is it worth on Airtel Digital TV?

I got Airtel for a friend of mine, the plan he took is
Total he Paid = 2000Rs
He got Dish + Box + universal remote + 65Ch free for 1 year + free installation.
He would be going for a topup =49rs/month
So in the end he has to just pay 50/month for the topup as he is getting 65other ch for free for 1 year.
I was told that only Airtel has MPEG-4 (good picture quality and sound). No other Co has MPEG-4 till date.

BTW, BigTV offer of Rs 2190 for all the channels is only for 1 year. After 1 year, expect a monthly bill of ~Rs.350 for the same package.
