Google rocks. I love this detaching of this tab to a new window. Simple click, hold and drag it out. But I am yet to find how to attach it back. lol:

The poll above must allow multiple selections.

I use three browsers.
IE for work related.
Firefox personal mails and web sites.
Chrome for TEAM-BHP.

I voted "other" in the poll because of Chrome - now there is a new option for Chrome!!!

There were plenty of browsers pre Mosaic. Erwise, Midas, Samba (Mac), Arena, Lynx and Arena are a few. So it is not pucca to paint Mosaic as the pioneer.

I continue to use IE and Firefox.

cheers:

I am talking about the first production quality browser with all the bells and whistles which was universally used. At the time I was working in a place where many guys were capable of reading the HTTP RFC and write a browser themselves. You can't count such efforts as serious browsers.

The complete list is here: Web Browser History - First, Early

The day they introduced Mosaic in our department, we didn't know any website address to visit. So we all studied http/html on the first day and by evening many of us (including me) had our own web pages and were inviting others via email to visit our pages. In about 3 days, practically everyone had a webpage displaying lots of personal info, family photos, personal image collections:D, and what not. Those were exciting days since this was a very new technology.

Google Chrome is just an improvement (hopefully) over existing browsing technology.

I too remember those days, all we had to browse was the university homepage and some links one of the lecturers had put together to other university sites (used to do my browsing on a Sun work station).

We had a few internet gurus who managed to find ftp sites with lots of pictures of models and they would soon do the rounds till one of the lecturers blocked someones account for having inappropriate material. lol:

Microsoft just makes you hate their products even if you're a windows lover. I'll tell you why.

I recently installed Google Chrome. Installation was very light, and it took less than a minute to get it installed and working. Wow...

I decided to try out IE8 as well. Downloaded and installed. It asked me to reboot after the install. Ok, I rebooted... The machine was 'Configuring Updates' for the next 5 minutes. After all that, it was saying, 'Failed to install the updates properly - reverting back'.... ***?!! Why can't IE8 get installed in my legal Vista Home Premium?! I just hate it.

Isn't IE8 still BETA, they are bound to have problems.

I analyzed the problem a bit, and found out that the IE8 installation actually finished well. But the CBS (Component Based Services) failed afterwards. Still looking at the CBS log and trying to make out what went wrong.

I had the same problem when I was installing IE7 in Genuine Windows XP on my machine. The same problem. For the first five minutes during installation " Configuring Updates " and the the message, failed to install.
Then I restarted the computer and tried again, but this time just before the initialization of installation, I unchecked at one place ( dont remember for what it was ) and then again restarted the machine. Now it worked.

I think that even if you the message comes up " Failed to Install ", try again installing. IE8 would be installed.

I had a BSD (Blue Screen) when I logged off, after I tried installing IE8. My machine was running pretty smoothly, with a reliability index of 8.5 or so, and IE8 screwed that. I am not gonna try it again until these kind of glitches are sorted out by MS. Happy with IE7 and Chrome for the moment.

I downloaded firefox 3.1 Shirekoto.
As fast, if not faster than chrome. Of course its alpha software, release is still some time away.
Got bored with chrome, though its faster, firefox does "more"
Maybe I am used to firefox.
I am also seeing a lot of crashes in tabs randomly with chrome.

I am currently using Firefox 3.0.1. Is the 3.1 the latest version? If so, could you post the link for downloading the 3.1?

Yes, Agreed. I felt the same. But Chrome does its job. In FF, I had many plugins like Adblocks, gestures etc etc and without these I feel like handicapped. :(

I found shiretoko and chrome speeds to be similar.
the browser wars just got heated up I guess. Good for the end user.
I expect to see a few branches of chrome come up(non google branches) once the linux version is out with the full source code.
