vguard has a digital stabilizer meant for the new high end appliances like LCD/Plasma. The new ones have surge suppressor/spike protection along with the regular voltage regulation. They cost substantially more than the normal stabilizers. They are available in 300VA, 400VA, 600VA and 1.2KVA. More details here:

Products

The 400VA costs Rs.2,600 and the 600VA costs Rs.1,090.

I'm thinking of getting either the V-guard 600VA digital stabilizer or the APC Line-R 600VA.

Line-R 600VA Automatic Voltage Regulator

The APC one is Rs.2,950.

Looks like you have a failed heating coil.

Note: At one time IFB was OEM for Bosch

Not really, didn't have any problem with heating. The dishes used to be hot and wet (no wise cracks needed here:)), instead of hot and dry.

Yes, I am old enough to remember the IFB-Bosch nexus.

Sorry about that. lol. The 600VA is Rs. 3,090.

I think that stuff is meant for electronics, not devices which draw high current to power heaters, or take surge demands for starting motors.

I suspect that the older technology is appropriate for AC, fridges, washing machines, etc.

Just a warning in case you end up with something technologically superior, expensive ...and useless!

Thanks for the warning Thad (if it was for me. lol). I'm planning on getting it for the LCD TV.

Just spent Rs.1,400 for replacing 2 components on the TV thanks to a surge.

Rs.1,000 was inspection charges and 400 for the components courtesy Sony.

Never faced this problem with the Candy in the UK for the AEG420 (unfortunately that was the number) except once. I found the drain was partly blocked and there was a lot of water in the drain area. The other times it happened was due to power cuts during the drying cycle.

Can members here suggest a good refrigerator. After 6.5 years, my Electrolux 370L FF has started acting up a lot lately, does not cool, and other problems.

Is Hitachi 3 door good. I suffer from a kitchen space limitation (fridge has a built in space and getting a bigger one than that can fit in would require some breakage work, which I do not want). My max specs (ie existing specs are 597 mm/23.5 inch width, 1612 mm/63.5 mm height, 622 mm/24.5 mm depth). Width and depth cannot be changed much except by 0.5 inch at the most, but height can go up by 2-3 inches.

So max spec is 600 mm W, 1700 mm H, 625 mm D

Need some suggestions for a gas range. Our old Superflame, with 4 burners, a grill and an oven is tottering as it is about 15 years old. We want to replace it with something very similar, a free-standing upright gas range. I see now, brands like Kaff, faber, Sunflame, etc. Any feedback on your experiences will be appreciated.

With frequent power cuts in Chennai, I am on the lookout for a good branded emergency/stand-by light.

I have a couple of Chinese ones but they don't last more than 10 minutes now.

Which one would you guys suggest ?

Surya lights seem to be able to go for half an hour or so --- but you mustn't keep them always on charge and never use them, or the capacity gets less.

There's an exhibition this coming weekend at Chennai Trade Centre: they usually have a stall at exhibitions there.

If you meant "backup light lasts only 10 minutes now, whereas backup was longer before", I suggest you simply change the batteries. Ought to be a simple DIY job, provided you know soldering.

Buy Vinverth/Sanyo.

Also, you can buy solar emergency lamps.

Hey Vid, What did you finally buy ? Read on another forum that the Vguard DIGI series outputs 253V when the input is 295V and this may not be safe for your LCD/Plasma.

Hi You can have a look at the new range of Samsung refrigerators, I have a Samsung RT35 -345 lts costing around 22K.

This refrigerator is a 5 star rated one consuming around 440 units /yr as per BEE rating scale.
Overall the cooling is quite effective & it has a phase change cool pack which maintains the freezer temperature incase of long power cuts.

The compressor is rated at 85W ....So far the performance is excellent. This model is not wide but is definitely taller than the usual ones pls check the dimensions.
