The LG top-loading washing machine (a 4.5 litre punch+3 model) that I bought in mid-1999 is still going strong, with not a single complaint in all this while. It's used at least five times a week. I guess it's a matter of luck as well. My LG microwave started giving complaints in the second year and the button panel had to be replaced.

We have a Videocon top loading washing machine which is going going great guns since I was a kid! Its well over a decade old, cant even recall exactly when it was bought. Has never needed any repairs. The only time we had to call the service man was to replace the lint filter once and once to clean up inaccessible places after a rat attack.:mad: Its a shining example of how a machine should be. :thumbs up I wonder if Videocon still makes such durable machines.

The IFB Neptune dishwasher we got few months ago stopped washing dishes properly after the initial 20-30 washes! After a lot of twiddling, delays, frustration, and follow ups, the company just replaced it. Long story... Keeping fingers crossed now... And its a pretty pricy thing to run!

Just picked up a front loading Samsung washing machine. It's the new range of front loaders with the Diamond shaped drum, higher voltage operating range from 160V - 400V.

The 5.5 KG model I picked up is Rs.25K at Samsung Digital Plaza.

After seeing a few places, picked it up from Girias, Inner ring road branch for 22.5K with free vacuum cleaner.

Just ordered the spare part for my Bosch from eBay. £169 (about 13,000. In practical terms, about half a month's pension).

Several gambles... correct diagnosis, ebay, unknown ebay trader, postage, customs...

vid6639... That operating voltage range sounds very handy for India. Nice market targeting on Samsung's part. In fact, it looks like a very nice machine. If I do end up having to buy another machine...

My new pass time, watching the Samsung machine spin dry at 1200rpm. Absolute madness. You can't see a thing when the drum is spinning.

The best part is the sound. It sounds like a turbo spooling up complete with the turbo whistle.

My new pastime: hoping my Bosch works now I have received its new "brain" and fitted it. First 10-minute test, just a fill, spin and pump.

It has 1200 spin too, and it is wonderfully silent!

Given that the Chennai sunshine dries even from sopping wet in a day, I don't bother with more than 600.

I am using RT35Z for the last 6-7 months , till now no problems. I bought it coz it was the only one to have a 5-star rating at that point of time. My previous fridge was also a Samsung direct cool version and used it for approx 5 years, had no problems with it too. Hence I thought reliability was pretty good.

The cooling is quite good. The cool pack is useful if there are lot of power-cuts in your area. Cool pack is a phase change material, helps in maintaining the temperatures for up to 1- 4hrs during power cuts.

Just be aware that the new fridges has a compressor activation switches located on the compressor. You need to press that once to activate the fridge.

Go ahead get a Samsung :thumbs up

You can also checkout Whirlpool fridge. The prime difference in Whirlpool, Samsung, LG is the space. Whirlpool has smaller freezer so they have 3 trays in the man area. Whereas Samsung and LG have large freezers and they have only 2 trays in main area. I personally liked Whirlpool because of this practicality.

What's the point of such an activation switch?
