I do have a 50" plasma, but I don't think I'll get PS3 or XBOX 360. My son might pre-maturely retire from school to play fulltime. Now I have to think like a parent.

So is this like the Wii is which you actually have to do some physical work to play.

I know in Wii bowling and tennis you need to actually swing your hand to hit the ball holding the Wii commander as it works on movement.

Also the initial Wii's strap was defective and when you swing the strap had a tendancy to snap and go flying into your expensive flat panel TV. I think there was a case against nintendo for this.

No. There is no physical element other than pressing too many buttons together.

@C3PO, I knew you would only understand things the way it is. And you don't have to be sorry for not resisting it.

The sound from the PS3 makes you feel like You're in the game. That means, you also need to buy a decent 5.1 speaker system with an HDTV to fully get immersed into it. And we have Denon with Bose() speakers. Will soon shift to HK speakers. Amazing performance and VFM.

Sony cuts PS3 prices

Sony cut the price of the PlayStation 3 by $100, or 17 percent, in the United States on Monday, a move designed to boost the game console's lackluster sales.
The PlayStation 3, which includes a 60GB hard drive and a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player, will now cost $500--or $20 more than the most expensive version of Microsoft's Xbox 360.

Indian prices will also drop soon, hopefully.

you need a separate HDMI cable to get the 1080 resolution. I think in india it is priced at around 2k.

So one cannot enjoy the ps3 on a normal 25" flat screen TV?

grumble.. grumble.. there's no comparison my friend. ps3 is MEANT to be enjoyed on a lcd screen(good)/plasma(preferred). This is out of experience and just my opinion.

cheers

No they won't... the price drop is only temporary... basically they have introduced a 80GB model, and the price drop is intended only for the remaining 60GB stock, which is to be phased out.

PS3 is quite awesome but not worth the money at this point for 3 main reasons:
  1. You need a HDTV (preferably a 1080p LCD) and this is very very expensive, and unsuitable for watching regular TV (Tatasky, Hathway etc.) in India.
  2. Very few games are available, and the games themselves are quite expensive (About Rs. 2500+).
  3. The only thing they have really upgraded is the graphics and not really the complexity of gameplay. In other words, games are just prettier, but not really more intense. So if you took 15 hours to finish a ps2 game on average, then you are not going to be spending more than 15 - 20 hours on an average on ps3 games. It's only when developers start using the extra space of the BluRay Discs for stuff other than graphics that games will reach the "next generation."
