Has anybody ordered any lens / product online from BHPhotoVideo from India?
Any experience with their international shipping?

Not worth it considering the added cost. You'd have a lot of shipping cost plus 36.5% duty. Buy here in grey either from RK or Photocircle.

36.5% duty? :Shockked:

How is the "peace of mind" factor when you buy grey?
I'm a bit worried about warranty matters?

The duty is less on digital cameras - they qualify as IT peripherals as you need a computer to download pictures from them. I think the applicable duty slab is 10%. On lenses it is probably higher though.

Yes warranty matters. However if you are a regular cusomter small isses (service, calibration etc..) can be sorted out easily if you damage your camera or lens then you have to pay.

The nice thing about buying grey is that you can test the lens before taking and not take it if it is soft or has focussing issues. You know you are getting a good copy when you buy. If buying from a webstore you don't know anything about the copy you are gonna get. So in a way grey is more piece of mind atleast IMHO.

Please help-

1. What would be the price of Canon 350D and 400D in bangalore? (grey of course)

2. Is the lens available with the SLR suitable for normal applications, or do we have to buy lenses with the camera in the beginning itself?

3. For a first time user interested in photography (my friend), does the 350D/400D make sense over FZ18/S5IS considering the difference in price it commands?

If you getting the 350/400D get the 18-55 II IS and 55-250 IS lenses. They are all you need to start. Then buy lenses as you figure out what you shoot more often for example the 50/1.8 makes cheap and sharp potrait lens and the 28/2.8 or 35/2.0 a cheap normal lens. Also remember that for many applications (landscapes etc.) you can get a cheap manual lens and still be ok.

The FZ18 and S5 have 1/2.5" sensors the 350/400 have 22x15mm sensors. That is a ratio of 1:10. There is little comparision between these. Only the Fuji S100FS (9x6mm) and Sony R1 (22x15mm) have sensors that compete in size to that of APS-C SLRs.

Hi Guys,
I am planning to purchase a Digital Camera. I work in Singapore. I am getting Sony T-300 for S$565 (approx 17K INR) here. This includes 2GB Memory Card, Carrying Case & 1 yr International warranty.

Just wanted to confirm is it better to buy from Singapore or buy from India.

Thanks:)

read the fine print

moreover when you but a kit lens that too has no warranty the warranty is for the camera only

Has anyone tried the weekend course at Bangalore School of Arts and Photography?

I am looking for some weekend course like that. Please let me know if anyone has any idea about the course mentioned above. And if you know any better course, then please suggest that as well. The course should be over weekends preferrably, and for amateurs.

The Life and Light Academy's workshops seem extremely expensive at 15 grands plus 4 for acco!

Mods, i didnt want to start another thread but i know you guys will do that anyways if this discussion warrants it :)

Thanks. I'll try RK instead.

@amitoj: I've been trying to enroll in BSOAP course for the last 2 years. :)
Something would come up and spoil my plans.

Amitoj,

You can try this for starters. It is just a two day course. I believe he is a Team-BHPian, but not a regular.
