Shutter timing is shutter speed. The shutter lag is not part of specification, it is just a trait. The reviewers may mention it, the manufacturer won't.

Yeah, dSLRs are tempting, but dSLRs won't take videos or let you frame using LCD. If you are considering VFM dSLRs, do consider Olympus, it is much more bang for the money. If on the hand you are planning to buy pro-level equipment in future, then Canon/Nikon is a good idea.

You can get exif data displayed in any image viewer like faststone etc.,

Well,
You can get the exif data without any software if you are using Windows Xp. Save the image on your computer, right click on the image, properties, summary, advanced. And you have all the EXIF data you need and also the camera used and other things.
Nope, you can't if the user has used "Save for web". You don't need windows XP to see exif, you can see on any system :)
The problem is many image editing software strip out the metadata.

Downloaded exif, opened the image with exif & uploading the same. Not sure whether this is wat u want.
EDIT: When these images were opened from my system, it diplays lots of info's on image and camera. But upon uploading those details were not seen, pls help
Max aperture value is shows is F2.83
Surprise, the shutter speeds are 1/4 of a sec and 1/6 of a second.
for such focal lengths you need atleast 1/50 of a second to get a stable shot.
So try using the flash, or use a tripod so that the camera is steady while taking the photograph.
I suspect your camera is in some Progam mode where low speeds are being selected irrespective of flash used, i.e. camera is doing metering based on no flash. Switch to complete auto mode and try?

F8! Its a P&S, shutter of F4 is normal, you will start getting diffraction on such a small sensor if you go to F8. F8 is the minimum aperture possible on most compacts I think.

okay .. I thought he is trying to get a shot from slr :). For P&S go for auto mode and auto flash, usually camera takes care in full auto mode

Thanks a lot tsk 1979. I did reset the entire settings & now the problem is resolved. After struggling with those poor quality images from my new camera, the results of reset photographs made me the happiest person.

Yes, you can read exif data on any system, but you would require an image viewer to do so or an exif reader. For ex, I use Win 2000 at office and I cant see the exif data directly with the properties-> summary.

Why, even on my machine here(its not XP/2000 etc.,) I do a "right click-> Properties and see the exif info.
