Its not indiatimes which is the seller. Indiatimes is just the site which is hosting the seller
Its an ebayish model.

the Seller is technoworld.
Also this is grey market pricing.
If you read the fine print, it says 1 year warranty from seller.
Canon products give 2 year warranty in India. This is just the sellers word.
If you want grey, you will get better price on the street.

It doesn't say anything about the Kit Lens, I guess this is a Body only price, which is too high.

Your right no lens mentioned anywhere, whew its expensive.

@anni, For lesser than that price its available on ebay or some other places ( try googling)

Avi, congrats on your D40x. Last I knew you were using your arm twisting contacts to get a decent piece. :D

So whats the final story? How much? From where?

Thanks man, Haha! That trick didnt work. I mean i got a great deal 26K but, i was not convinced that our Jagdish market fellas would resist from tampering the product:D. In the meantime, I happened to know of a good ebay seller from a friend of mine who bought lots of stuff from him.

Even if a wee bit expensive ( 28K, Free Nikon Bag, 1GB Card) i bought it from him. Must say, the final experience was really awesome for everything right from communication to product delivery, must confess i am happy:)

I was gifted a new Digital Camera by my son two weeks ago when he visited us for a long week end.
This is my first Digital Camera and I know nothing about Digital Photography!
The Camera is SONY T-20-very slim and compact,
8 Mega Pixels,3 times Op. Zoom and 2.5 " Screen.
Price 13500/
Now why I am writing this is, it was a spur of the moment decision and I do not do this; but do a detailed research before I decide to buy!
Here my son wanted to buy for me an expensive N series Nokia camera phone arguing I don't have a digital camera and my mobile is Nokia 5110,which is one of the oldest models and people were already making fun of me saying every thing about me was vintage!
But I objected saying I may lose it soon.
In the shop I also noticed Digital Cameras many of them were less than the price of the Mobile Camera he was planing to buy!
So I agreed to accept a Digital Camera instead!
I wanted to go home and do some search to decide What camera to buy but he would not agree since he was leaving next day and I have to choose one right there.
There were many brands-but finaly I decided on this -SONY T-20,which has a internal focussing lens which does not telescope out side the body.
I would like to know if any of you out there have this camera /or know about it and what do you say?
Just to hear -purchase has been made and nothing can change it!
I have a few interesting Film Cameras-about which later!
v_sukumar.

Mobike, Is this with manufacturer warranty? If yes, its pretty cool a deal, In chennai, I haven't got a quote less than 31K with warranty.

By the way, Nikon D40 is cheaper than the 350D as well.

I think with the latest offer of Rs 28995, 350D becomes cheaper than D40. Correct me if wrong.

Also, I think all-round performance wise the Sigma telephoto (18-200mm) is better than the comparable Tamron. Of course thats my view again.

Will this lens have Auto focus also? (not that I want to use it often). Are they less expensive than a similar spec Tamron? Does either of these lens have something like a inbuilt vibration reducer?

It's not a crime to use Auto Focus. It doesn't make you lesser either.
:)

I was kidding. but do you recommend buying without B&W in India or if I can get the same price with B&W in Malaysia. BTW we are 9 people (6 adults) in our group and I can use all the duty free quota, one product per person.

In my limited expereince I have never had good expereince with the IQ 3rd party lenses. Now this was on the Nikon system (N80/D70/D80) and with the lesser zooms (70-300/4-5.6 etc..). Hence I prefer to stick to Canon/Nikon/Oly-Zuiko lenses as the case may be.

Heyyy, thanks for the info guys. Had been to Alfa today, a local shop in Mumbai, famous for Electronic stuff. Guesss Navin must be well acquainted. The shop offered me the 40X from Nikon at 25,600 and Canon 400D at 28,550. No warranty that is. Well, how much will a lens kit cost me as he said he doesnt sell lens kits. Also can anyone from Mumbai tell me, whether is Alfa a safe place to buy from ? Its the first time I am buying a camera and that too a SLR for my Dad. Means a lot to me, so just want to give the best and safest . I am a newbie to the SLR world, so please bare with me, if I stated anything wrong.

What if we buy a camera without bill and warranty here (grey). In case something goes wrong with it, can we get it serviced from canon service (paid of course)?

I would not buy a DSLR from Alfa. A mobile maybe but not a DSLR.

A kit lens is a lens that comes with the body. Not a lens that is part of a kit of lenses.

Why Not? Even if the camera is purchased from grey market, the camera is manufactured by canon, so if you are willing to pay for the service they will service it without any hassle.

@Navin: I am sure you can get the same price with B&W in Malaysia. And the duty free quota, one product per person will work well too.
