All about external (backup) hard disks

looking for a compact hard drive to bring back my files ,Confused which one to buy

WD Passport 2.5" 120 gb V2 - £ 49 (4000 rs approx)
or WD Passport 2.5" 160 gb - £ 43 (3400 approx)

Have no clue what's the difference between the V2 model and the regular one,the older model gives 40 gb more for less money.

Any advice appreciated

Man you are getting great VFM here.
Are you getting these from some one in the UK???
Double check if the drives come with international warranty ( which i seriously doubt).
In case they don't i would suggest you to buy from India itself.
I recently purchased a 250 gb WD passport drive with 3 yrs warranty for 7200 bucks and i believe its worth the money.
In case your data size requirements are not that huge go for 160 gb.

PS : the warranty covers hardware only and nothing stored on it BTW.

mostly the speed of transfer is what u have to see..... prices depend on this....

I have the 120GB one & so does one of My friend, it seems popular in US(Thats where both of us got it from). I believe mine costed around 4k too(Got it from Bro so don't know exact price)

Its really good & works great. Dont know about the 160 one

the MY Book series are different from the Passport series. Passport series runs on USB power and, AFAIK, max of 320GB. My Book needs external power and has max of 2TB.

i have a 160GB passport, using for the past 7 months- Got it for 120$US. really sleek with USB 2.0 transfer rate.

I do not understand the things about "V2" - never came across such a model. Do you have a model number for that?

But, regardless, go for the passport - pick the one that suits your disk space need. You will never regret it!

You can look up the customer reviews on the particular models you are considering. They should give you a fair idea about known issues as well as failure rates. Dont look at the prices though - might give you heartburn
