wow - just saw the Apple stores in de/fr/ca - it seems they will be available commitment free and genuinely unlocked.

so I should be able to walk into an apple store in Germany on the 1st day of my trip, buy an iphone and walk out using it! Cool!

France/Germany/UK offer Apple authorized unlock after a time period is completed on contract or you pay up front.

Canada doesn't offer any unlock options - you will need to hack/unlock or use a turbosim.

Several others are factory unlocked but they don't get it before August. My trip to Germany in Mid-July just might end up concluding with a long drive to Italy!

Locating iPhone wireless carriers

New iPhoens will be available as unlocked carrier/SIM free as well. Earlier they were only in Australia, Italy, Hong Kong, NZ, etc. :)

iOS4 is available for official download via iTunes 9.2. Go get it!

is it safe to install it on our Airtel locked iPhone 3G ? I am too tempted to try out OS4

yeap it very much "safe". Just that the jailbreak is still under its beta and dev-team is yet to announce the official jailbreak. Just take of few things before downloading on 3G:

- Battery might drain fast
- no customize wallpaper (only on iphone 4)
- lose out on jailbreak apps (unless backed up)
- buggy apps (since all apps are not tested on ios4)

If reports are to be believed, 3G and below won't support multi-tasking feature of OS 4.

I'm guessing you mean un-unlockable? Yes, no carrier unlock yet for that (info courtesy Tejas).

Why would you need 3.1.3 once 4.0 is out and jailbroken?

I am on firmware 3.13 but baseband 5.12.01. The dev site says the 5.12.01 still remains un-lockable. :(

good news guys i unlocked my iphone 3gs 32gb after 6 months which was updated to 3.1.3 with modem firmware of 5.12.01
i am so happy about it.

Do you mean to say that we need to jailbreak iphone 3gs and then upgrade from 3.1.3, baseband 5.12.1 to 4.0 and then and unlock it. Please clarify.

i doubt if anybody would want to upgrade to 4.0 as it would have someother problems.atleast the 3.1.3 is tried & tested.
so just jailbreak it & unlock it.

Did you use spirit to jailbreak.

Did you follow the exact steps mentioned in your link to unlock it. How were you able to connect to the net and download ultrasnow.
