its going to be both: Airtel as well as Vodafone according to some reports

btw , it may sound offtopic to iphone 1 but
iphone 2 is released and is for 199$ only and with instore activation only.

seems like second hand price of iphone 1 will increase tremendously for sometime....
lets see what happens later when iphone 2 is also cracked , jailbroken etc etc.

Thanks technocrat clap:

The iPhone is coming to India via Vodafone and Airtel.
Vodafone press Release: Vodafone and Apple to bring iPhone 3G to Australia, Italy, New Zealand & Portugal on July 11 - Vodafone

Airtel Press Release: Bharti Airtel and Apple to Bring iPhone 3G to India

Quote from Vodafone PR: "....and in the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, India, South Africa and Turkey later this year"

How will Indians take to all these? Will they still buy?

I know it has a lot of fans, but personally i feel the iPhone is overhyped crap...much like the other recent Apple products... i might post the(obvious) reasons later...

Very valid points, i observed a funny situation couple of days back in one of those upmarket joints in Bangalore. Somebody just got an iphone and his friends were all ga ga over it, i was really surprised to see that fact that the "upmarket wannabes" didnt have a clue about iphone or for that matter, they knew it existed since 11 months :P

Will it sell, yes! Apple is very shrewd when it comes to marketing and brand positioning and they will do a brilliant job by pulling the crowd from symbian and win mob gang in india. Atleast half of them dont care a hoot and just buy the stuff coz its kewl.

I second that thought!

Regading the points you mentioned
- The sms thing can be fixed by installing a small 3rd party app.
- This is a very strong factor against the iPhone but I still somehow dont feel that it can pull down the sales.
- iTunes: Well, people have lived with it while using iPods.
- I think that I read somewhere that Iphone 3G Safari will have flash support now(I might be wrong).

Regardless of the above points, iPhone with its mindblowing GUI and now all the added bells and whistles will surely be a hot cookie.

mY 2 Cents:)

Yesterday, on some stupid '24 hour' hindi news channel, it was being reported that 'Apple iPhone has been launched in USA' at USD 199.

The reporter then went on to say 'Apple plans to launch it in India in end 2008, at the same price, meaning it will be under INR 10k' :Frustrati

What you heard was correct!! I listened in to the keynote live and Job said that they were gonna price the phone at $199 worldwide. I dont know what exchange rate they will use, though.

ps: That was for the 8Gb iPhone

Add to that, Bluetooth files cannot be sent through Iphone. Nevertheless, it will be a hotseller. Too common thing to have like an Ipod

Wrong..... even the 8GB iPOD nano cost more than that here... It just isnt possible. Airtel isnt gonna give you an subsidies like AT&T and if it does, be ready for a monthly plan of atleast a thousand rupees minimum for 2 years.

Can someone help me understand how to chat from the IPhone? Can we install a chat application supporting GTalk? AIM and YAhoo? All 3 or each one seperately?

I dont chat usually but my Sister-in-law needs it on every weekend. Emails and browsing works great for me.

This weekend i did not realize this when she asked me for it, simply asked her to go to meebo and log in lol:
