Except that they charge a lot for piping. On an average installation it will be to the tune of 2K extra!

I doubt whether the left over piping will have sufficient length in a single run. Now Copper is expensive so cost is bound to be high. I remember Carrier charging Rs.2200 in 1999 for shifting a unit!

Anyone, comments on the prices for Daikin posted by me? Need to confirm today, thats why. What is H series? I don't remember reading about it on the Daikin site.

Between the G and the E for 1.5 ton and above the G series can have a maximum piping length of 30 Mts. for E this can be 20Mts. Further with the G series you can have a height difference between the two units of up to 15Mts and for the E series this figure is 10Mts. I have no idea regarding the H series.
As for the prices you would be better off reading through the previous few pages as to what is being offered to other members or take a quote from a competing dealer. Here is the link to locate dealers in Bombay

Go for one large 4-6T inverter type AC (or VRF - variable flow refrigerant) unit. Though slightly higher in initial cost, it will last longer.
Another option is to go for 3x1.5T 2-3* units. That is if the AC is required for less than 2-3 hours a day. In such case the higher electricity consumption does not pinch due to low utilization.

Oh the 1.5t was for one of the bedrooms. Decided on the 3* E series for the bedroom since the 5* costs 8k more, dosen't seem worth it though this ac will be used everday.
For the living room according to my architect and the ac person, 2 2t ACs will be enough for now. The piping is done for a 3rd unit if we ever need one. Decided on the G series for this, since the piping is quite long.
All the other ACs in the new house will be the existing ones which we have now.
Budget- 25-30K
Capacity- 1.0 ton
Prefer efficient model- maximum power saving possible within budget.

My Voltas 1.5 ton split AC's indoor unit is leaking water (after 20-30 mins of operation) since yesterday. I checked the drain pipe and it is OK. Please help me, what to do now.
Hello Team,
Today when I was searching something in my parents room, I smelled a very bad smell and to my surprise AC was on.Dad told me that its a daily thing and when we starts it it gives very bad smell.Can somebody help me out?
Is it due to the gas leakage or some bacteria issue in the AC ?
Its a 1.5 ton LG ac 5.5 years old and the gas was re-filled previous year only.

If there is water coming in from the IDU then your drain pipe is certainly not OK. Check more thoroughly. At the outset feel around the drain pan in the IDU it's mouth may be choked, clean it out. If that is not the case then blow in to the drain pipe from the far end and you should get air bubbles or rather water in the IDU's drain pan should gurgle. This will tell you whether the drain is clear or not and also dislodge the blockage. It also tells you that the drain is in good shape. If you are not getting anything that would tell you that either the drain is blocked, kinked or pinched somewhere or it has been dislodged from the outlet at the IDU end(very rare).

Check the electric plug socket. This is usually the smell of burning plastic and is similar to the smell of rotting flesh. Sockets/plug's plastic will burn on account of the excess heat generated due to loose connections. Refer my post in previous pages on ac upkeep to read more about how to avoid this.
