Would recommend checking out India Broadband Forum before you decide to switch ISPs. All these new ISPs might give you amazing offers at low prices, but most of them are not worth it. Ask around there and you'll get a better picture.

That's a total rip off!! Check out BSNL Chennai Plans below!

@ Danalan - I pay only Rs.500+tax for a plan similar to yours and I get speeds like 2000Kbps consistently. What is MTNL smoking?

Checkout Pacenet and Exattnet both wellknown in Mumbai Cablenet and have good offers currently.

Heard good things about Exatt. I use Pacenet myself and am quite happy with it. (256k unlimited at around 1300). Last time I asked, my cablewala was offering me 512k unlimited for around 1700.

But the thing with this cablenet is that a lot depends on your cablewala too. I'm lucky to have one who's really good and is actually interested in keeping his customers happy, and will compromise from his side if need be. Not everyone is always that lucky.

Hey Guys - Can someone tell me if BSNL EVDO is available in Bombay? I need to get a broadband connection and BSNL has a very competitive offering: Unlimted EVDO for Rs.550 per month in some other cities.

While the Maharastra website confirms the same, I cannot find any sellers of the service in mumbai.

Any leads on this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Vcash

I don't think BSNL operates in Mumbai city area.

I'm installing the Airtel 2mbps broadband connection. Will report back the results soon.

So I got the airtel connection up and running. It's a 2mpbs dedicated broadband connection with 15gb limit per month for 1199
Speedtest.net results returned download speed of 2.20mbs and upload of 0.60mbps. Is this large variation btwn upload and download speed normal?

I know we've crossed paths on your other thread, but i just wanted to clarify again that you are actually getting what you paid for. 256kbps ~= 25KB/s.

Yes. That's why its called A-DSL (A = Asymmetric).

Given the (current) nature of the internet a majority of the data is going TOWARDS your computer. Only requests, and smaller amounts of data are sent away from your computer. Hence the ADSL (or any plan with a slower upload and faster download) are common, and you barely feel the pinch in typical browsing / home usage.

If you want the same speed both ways (1:1) it ends up being a lot more expensive!
